Job Description

Overview

The Cardiac Technician is responsible for performing 12 lead EKGs down loading EKG information into the computer; scans edits prints and distributes results. Applying Holter Monitors and processing that Holter Monitor information for a physician to interrupt. Perform Stress Tests (treadmills) and Event Monitors on clients (including pediatric adolescent and geriatric). Properly performed tests ultimately affect the patients proper course of recovery and contribute to the overall CIHS goal of excellence in health care. Consistently utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical psych/social spiritual educational safety and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned service area.

Responsibilities

Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations. Practice reflects knowledge of HIPAA DNV JCAHO OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare. Demonstrates the ability to meet the department work schedule. Demonstrates the knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately. Hooks up and monitors Stress tests for arrhythmias and blood pressure abnormalities and notifies Physician or nurse of changes (including: Dobutamine Nuclear Stress Echocardiograms and Regular Stress). Applies Holter Monitors Event Monitors and Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitors and instructs clients in their usage. Loads recorded information into the appropriate computer system edits and prints and prepares results for the appropriate Cardiology group to interpret. Notifies Physicians of irregularities as directed. Performs and records EKGs and leaves results with patient chart. Stores data on disk and loads information into EKG System. Prepares test results for Physician interpretation as directed. Logs edits transcribes and distributes reports as directed. Identifies dangerous arrhythmias and notifies appropriate personnel. Troubleshoots equipment problems and makes necessary adjustments in order to obtain readable test results. Refers problems to appropriate personnel. Operates various types of technical and computerized pieces of equipment including facsimile machine Treadmill Holter Monitor system Event Monitor equipment Blood Pressure Monitor system and be proficient using EPIC. Recognizes isolation situations and takes appropriate precautions. Cleans with approved cleaning agent stocks equipment and outpatient exam area. Checks crash carts and checks defibrillators daily were applicable. Analyzes orders for pertinent diagnosis information assigns appropriate ICD9 and/or ICD10 code utilizing LMRP. Interviews client explains procedure and risks involved advises physician and client when indication may not be medically necessary and obtains written waver if necessary. Refers noncompliant requests to appropriate personnel. Accurately posts charges to client accounts and performs abstracting functions using appropriate ICD9 and/or ICD10 codes. Investigates client concerns and refers to appropriate staff person. This position may be assigned a specific mission to address in an emergency situation to assist in disaster response and recovery as part of the UPHDM Hospital Emergency Incident Command System. Situations of a critical nature may require an individual to perform multiple tasks until additional support can be obtained. Performs functions other than described due to extenuating circumstances. Abides by all Health System and departmental policies

Qualifications

One 1 year of healthcare related background and experience prefer EKG training. Prefer arrhythmia knowledge Data entry experience. Knowledge of ICD9 & ICD10 coding Proficient use of computer technology BCLS/certification preferred.
