Job Description
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Laboratory Director the Manufacturing Engineering Lab Technician is responsible for supporting the manufacturing engineering classes and lab facilities within the School of Engineering. This critical role supports the operations within each lab area to ensure lab safety and maintenance. They will work with faculty teaching the courses to ensure that the laboratory activities are prepared as the faculty desires with the necessary support. This person may also work with other faculty and students on their research projects if needed.

The School of Engineering is the largest academic unit within Wentworth serving approximately 1800 students in eight undergraduate engineering programs: biological biomedical civil computer electrical electromechanical engineering and mechanical. In addition the school has Master of Science degrees in civil computer and electrical engineering. Our curriculum provides practical handson experience through laboratoryintensive courses.
Our faculty comprises individuals from wideranging backgrounds and experiences where collaboration is highly encouraged and supported and our School has no department boundaries. Another point of pride is that our faculty members include those with significant industrial consulting entrepreneurial and project management experience.
Essential Job Functions:
Setting up and performing experiments tests and measurements to support engineering projects and research
Assisting with the design development and testing of products systems and processes
Adapt labs as needed which may include testing recording and writing up changes
Utilizing CAD software and other relevant software programs for creating models and drawings
Calibrating and maintaining laboratory equipment
Monitor inspect or test mechanical equipment
Track material needs for courses
Creates revises and modifies equipment documentation
Purchase materials and produce expense reports for labrelevant materials
Supervise department student employees (coops and work study) when applicable
Ensure faculty students and staff (including all student employees) using a laboratory are aware of and following proper lab safety procedures and safety responses
Maintain records of signed student lab safety agreement sheets
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements (education experience skills):
Minimum of associates degree or certificate or substantive relative experience
Minimum 3 years of relative industry experience
Strong technical knowledge of engineering principles and procedure
Familiarity with standard lab safety guidelines
Demonstrated ability to understand and know how to use the computerized and other automated equipment necessary for the testing and analysis of samples equipment and materials
Preferred Qualifications additional credentials licensure experience skills):
Bachelors degree in related field
Knowledge of machines and tools including their designs uses repair and maintenance
Interaction with faculty and/or students at an institution of higher education ideally in the engineering discipline
Prior experience SolidWorks software is a plus
Position Details and Work Environment:
This is a fulltime benefitseligible position 37.5 hours/week)
This is an hourly position that is eligible for overtime
This is a campusbased onsite position
Work may require personnel protective equipment (PPE)
Work is performed in an office or laboratory
Physical demands may include sitting standing stooping walking and lifting at least 50 pounds
