The pay of crafts workers with documented satisfactory performance will continue to be based on the crafts workers rates set by OSER in 2009 and increased as a result of subsequent general wage adjustments. For further information please see UW System Administrative Policy 1238 and 1277.

The Journey/Master Plumber position provides plumbing service to the entire University community repair preventive maintenance and modification to existing fixtures and systems; installation of new equipment and systems. Must be a licensed Journey Plumber or licensed Master Plumber by the State of Wisconsin. A Journey level plumber will be required to secure a Masters license within one year of appointment. A WI drivers license is required and must be authorized to drive a University vehicle upon appointment.

This position will function as a member of the Facilities Management Maintenance team providing customer service to the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh community. Employees are expected to be flexible in the performance of their job functions and to communicate openly with supervisors coworkers other departments and University staff. This position may occasionally be asked to work hours in excess of the normal shift 7:00am to 3:00pm MondayFriday) and after hour callins. Must pass a prework screen to ensure the ability to perform essential physical functions of the position.

Responsibilities

70 Provision of Construction Installation Maintenance Repair and Modification

  • Maintains repairs and installs all types of plumbing fixtures including but not limited to toilets basins urinals floor drains sinks showers laboratory benches laboratory equipment safety showers safety eye washes and apparatus sprinkler heads vacuum breakers valves (shower automatic mixing check toilet flush gate and ball backflow prevent) chemical resistant copper galvanized and PVC pipes and fittings lead joints venting drain fittings and connections
  • Maintains repairs and installs all types of plumbing systems including but not limited to sanitary storm chemical waste lines and vents sanitary and storm sewers gas water systems (hot cold soft and reverse osmosis) laboratory services (gas air vacuum)
  • Maintains repairs and installs appliances and equipment including but not limited to hot water heaters softeners stills reverse osmosis units pumps dishwashers garbage disposals ice making equipment drinking fountains drink dispensing equipment
  • Interprets blueprints and drawings to assess specifications and calculate the materials and equipment required. Discusses project plan with customer/client
  • Completes skilled plumbing constructions remodels demolitions and repairs according to established trade standards and applicable building plumbing and safety codes

25 Preventative Maintenance

  • Remove and drain outside water meters for the winter season.
  • Drain and blow out water outside lines.
  • Test repair and clean gate valves for emergency showers and eye washers.
  • Check and service fire standpipe valves.
  • Rebuild faucets shower valves mixing valves and any other associated water dispensing valves.
  • Test and rebuild backflow valves on an annual basis. Complete paperwork to assure state records and regulations.

5 Other Duties as Assigned

  • Operate maintain and supply salt chemicals etc. for building water chemical treatment systems.
  • Assist maintenance staff.
  • Perform emergency overtime and callin work as required to repair and maintain campus plumbing systems.
  • Miscellaneous other duties.
  • Reviews finished projects with client/customer. Maintains records and reports of work status and completion according to established deadlines and expectations
  • Cleans work area upon completion of projects according to established guidelines and expectations

QualificationsRequired:
  • Must be a licensed journey or master plumber by the State of Wisconsin. A journey level plumber will be required to secure a masters license within one year of appointment.
  • Thorough knowledge of Wisconsin state plumbing codes.
  • Experience working with major types of plumbing installations common and unusual breakdowns and standard repair procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of the safety requirements state code and general orders of the Department of Commerce and of laws relating to sanitation and public health.
  • Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazard and safety precautions of the plumbing trade.
  • Experience reading interpreting and working from plans blueprints drawings or sketches.
  • Ability to perform physical labor including heavy lifting bending stooping twisting and other motions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred:
  • Reduced pressure backflow preventer tester license.

  • Experience with commercial service work.
