What You Will Be Doing

The Division of Mining Land & Water Land Survey Section in the Anchorage office has an opening in the Geodetic Unit for a Land Surveyor II. We are looking for applicants who have a good attitude are experienced at building consensus and working with teams and have a desire to create and administer the Alaska RealTime GNSS Network.

Mission and Culture

The DNR mission is To provide for the appropriate use and management of Alaskas stateowned land and water aiming toward maximum use consistent with the public interest.

The Survey Section provides surveying services to manage and maximize the use of more than 100 million acres of stateowned land. Boundary disputes easement vacations subdivisions and development of state land all require the professional services of the DNR Land Survey Section.

Core Responsibilities

  • Strategic Direction and Operational Control: Establish and manage both short and longterm goals ensuring the ACORN network meets its mission through effective program development and personnel management.
  • Collaboration with Key Stakeholders: Work closely with organizations like the Alaska Earthquake Center AK DOT&PF EarthScope NOAA National Geodetic Survey and the University of Alaska Geophysical Institute to support their operational and scientific objectives.
  • Contract and Resource Management: Oversee the creation negotiation and management of significant contracts allocate resources and manage project schedules to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Development and Implementation of Standards: Develop and implement standards and procedures for the Alaska RealTime Control Network ensuring alignment with national standards and providing training and outreach to foster user engagement.
  • Leadership and Mentorship: Guide mentor and develop relationships with other CORS managers and users fostering a collaborative and highperformance team environment.

The position has a 40hour work week with a flexible schedule.

This position requires travel within the State of Alaska. The incumbent will have the flexibility to schedule travel around their personal schedule.

The knowledge skills abilities and competencies needed to be successful in this position include:

  • Registration as a Professional Land Surveyor.
  • Technical experience and understanding of datums transformations and geodesy.
  • Demonstrated project management experience with the ability to organize and coordinate work within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with AutoCAD Civil3D ArcGIS and other common survey software and stated desire to learn new software and internet protocols.
  • Demonstrate communication training and technical writing skills that show courtesy tact empathy concern and politeness to others. This may include effectively dealing with individuals who are difficult hostile or distressed. Relate well to people from varied backgrounds and different situations. Be sensitive to cultural diversity race gender disabilities and other individual differences.
  • Works with minimal supervision; selfstarter; identifies and sets realistic goals.

Minimum Qualifications

Registration as a Professional Land Surveyor in Alaska AND one year experience as a registered Land Surveyor.

Special Note:
Registration as a Professional Land Surveyor in Alaska is required for appointment to this job class. Applicants registered in another state may apply but appointment is conditional upon receiving Alaskan registration as a Professional Land Surveyor. Registration may be allowed without examination to applicants holding registration in another state with similar requirements.
