RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Superintendent of Educational Services the Speech Language Pathologist will take a lead role throughout our Board to enhance the communication social and educational functions of students with speech and language disorders and augmentative/alternative communication needs by providing ongoing screening assessment consultation and training.
- Evaluates referrals from school teams; completes intakes and assessments; creates individualized services and support plans; and coordinates with community providers as required
- Evaluates students communication abilities; administers tests conducts observations reviews documentation and data in the areas of language literacy cognitivelinguistic skills speech voice resonance and fluency to determine presence of delays/disorders and provide diagnoses if appropriate
- Provides clinical supervision instructs and guides Communicative Disorders Assistants and provides input on performance as per the SpeechLanguage & Audiology Canada (SAC) guidelines.
- Completes reports including assessment reports progress notes discharge reports communication to parents outside agencies and staff
- Consults and builds capacity with principals classroom teachers special education teachers communicative disorders assistants and educational assistants for service delivery and program implementation.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Master of Science Degree in SpeechLanguage Pathology or the equivalent
- Registered member of the College of Audiologists SpeechLanguage Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO);
- Three 3 years relevant experience preferably in a school setting;
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills;
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams;
- Excellent timemanagement skills;
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a minimum amount of supervision;
- Superior written and oral communication skills;
- Valid Ontario Drivers License and access to a reliable vehicle;
- A commitment to continuing education.
