Pay Range:$21.2224.41per hour. Your hourly rate will be based on the year of study at school.

Work Location: Hybrid 3 days onsite at Willowbrook Rail Maintenance Facility 91 Judson Street Toronto ON M8Z 1A4

Contract up to 4 months starting May 12 2025

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit including GO Expansion Light Rail Transit routes and major expansions to Torontos subway system to get people where they need to go better faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

Our Environmental Management Office is looking for a COOP Student to gain handson experience with compliance projects and sustainability across Metrolinx operations. The student will learn about environmental regulations operational best practices and team up with different departments to help make a real impact.

What Will I Be Doing

  • Assist in gathering organizing and analyzing environmental data related to emissions and waste.
  • Support the implementation and tracking of environmental programs in areas such as spill prevention and waste diversion.
  • Help prepare reports presentations and materials for internal stakeholders.
  • Support presentations for internal environmental training (such as spills awareness training).
  • Collaborate with other departments (fleet operation and maintenance) to identify and support sustainability opportunities.
  • Contribute to development of tools or communication to raise environmental awareness across the organization.

What Skills And Qualifications Do I Need

  • Must be attending school fulltime and returning to an academic institution
  • Must be at least 15 years of age before starting employment
  • Enrolled in an Environmental Studies Environmental Sciences or relevant program at a post secondary institution.
  • Basic understanding of environmental regulations and standards (For example Environmental Protection Act ISO 14001.
  • Familiarity with sustainability and waste management practices and knowledge of environmental auditing and reporting processes.
  • Support data collection analysis and reporting related to environmental metrics (For example emissions spills waste management).
  • Knowledge and experience with spill response procedures is a strong asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel PowerPoint).
  • Ability to create or contribute to presentations or awareness campaigns.
  • This position may require time spent in operational areas such as rail yards or maintenance facilities and must be comfortable working safely in these environments.
  • Passion for environmental management sustainability and a desire to learn.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to cooperate and assist other coworkers with various projects
  • Valid Ontario Drivers License is an asset as work may require occasional travel to other Metrolinx Sites
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
