Special Education Faculty

The Influence1 Foundation a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization was organized exclusively for purposes to include educational management community engagement and economic development. Initiated as a philanthropic measure of its founder Influence1 has grown to serve the local community in multiple capacities with varying programs geared for community and youth enrichment.

In addition to its charter schools City University School of Liberal Arts City University School Boys Preparatory City University School Girls Preparatory and City University School of Independence Influence1 is also responsible for the 38106 Joint Agency Collaborative 1Urban Gallery and the Memphis Starts With Me community program.

City University Schools

City University Schools is a network of openenrollment college preparatory schools established under Tennessee charter school laws in underresourced communities throughout the state.

Since its founding in 2004 City University Schools strives to meet the need of public education as well as the demand for alternative institutions committed to postsecondary preparation.

Each school operates on the principles of providing a valuable wellrounded academic experience through the support of a diverse and dedicated group of qualified educators and administrative staff an extended school year and rigorous college preparatory curriculum.

Mission

City University Schools will prepare its students with the necessary skills to be twentyfirst century scholars and citizens. As college preparatory schools operating as Centers of Excellence for Student Development City University Schools will provide academically rigorous and socially enriching educational opportunities for its scholars. Upon graduation these scholars will be better prepared to enter secondary education and college as intellectually sophisticated citizens with vigor for learning.

Position Goal

To work directly with professors and administrators of all schools as well as parents in coordinating the delivery of exceptional scholar programs. To provide technical assistance to ensure a continuum of service options as the designee of the Special Education Program.

Responsibilities

Instructional

  1. Prepare scholar education plans in consultation with the Professional School Guidance Counselor parents administrators and IEP & 504 plan team members
  2. Design instruction both individual and small group with parallels to college preparatory curriculum.
  3. Monitor scholar progress participate in review and revision of IEP & 504 plan as appropriate.
  4. Develop and update scholar IEPs and lead IEP meetings with parents professors and district representatives.
  5. Identify specific individual scholar needs and work with campus Professors to accommodate modify or differentiate materials as necessary.
  6. Assist other professional staff in diagnosis of learning disorders development of planned remediation and evaluation of scholar progress. Work with professors and the Professional School Guidance Counselor to identify curriculum needs and suggest ways professors can accommodate curriculum and differentiate classroom materials.
  7. Input and maintain appropriate scholar data in Easy IEP and other records and submit reports as required.
  8. Articulate curriculum between and among scholar levels.
  9. Meet with faculty members to interpret changing state and federal mandates. Also identify curriculum needs and suggest ways professors can accommodate curriculum and differentiate classroom materials.
  10. Serve as initial contact to parents respond to parent complaints and track complaints to develop permanent resolutions assure that parents have been informed of the scholars eligibility for exceptional scholar education and their due process rights.
  • Plan schoolbased inservice meetings for employees regarding procedures.
  1. Keep abreast of current research trends and best practices in the special education realm.
  2. Keep abreast of laws rules and policies in assigned area.

Classroom Management

  1. Maintain a safe classroom environment by implementing precautions to assure safe surroundings in the classroom and for all scholars.
  2. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and is developmentally suitable to the maturity and interest of the scholars.
  3. Uphold The Student Scholars Code of Conduct.
  4. Prevent behavior problems by keeping scholars engaged and intervening early before an issue arises.
  5. Participate in general supervision through the school.
  6. Maintain accurate complete and correct records of the scholars as required by law school policy and administrative regulations.

Assessment

Evaluate the effectiveness of teaching based on results of student achievement (student performance on tests standardized tests)

Rapport with Scholars & Parents

  1. Work with students enthusiastically interact with students effectively and contribute to the success of student life.
  2. Offer time outside of classroom time to speak with parents/guardians by phone/email to address questions/concerns regarding their scholars grades/classroom issues.
  3. Sponsor scholar activities/sports/clubs/organizations.

Professional Relationships

  1. Parents (professionalism in all aspects)

  3. Administrators (cooperation willingness to try new ideas ability to accept constructive criticism and improve)

Qualifications

Bachelors degree and teacher certification in Special Education required masters degree preferred. City University Schools complies with all Tennessee policies regarding minimum requirements that teachers be certified in the appropriate instructional subject area.

Campus President of City University Schools

Terms of Employment

This is an 11month position. All contractual information will be outlined in the contract between the Teacher and the City University Schools Board of Trustees. The Teacher will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy.

Salary and Benefits

Starting salary is commensurate with experience with competitive incentive increases.

Health and dental insurance for fulltime employees a portion of the cost of these programs will covered by the employer; Group term life and longterm disability insurance is also available; Retirement any staff participation requirements of the state retirement system will be followed.
