Job Description
Minimum Entrance Requirements
This requisition will remain open until filled; however first consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.

Applicants must have at least (A) one year of fulltime or equivalent parttime experience in electrical or electronic system repair the major duties of which included installing constructing maintaining and repairing electronic or electrical systems or equipment or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions
I. A certificate from a recognized school above the high school level in electronics or electrical engineering may be substituted for the required experience.
II. Education toward such a degree/certificate will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operators License. - Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Journeyman License or Master Electricians License (in addition to a valid Massachusetts Journeymans License) issued by the State Examiners of Electricians. *

System Requirements
Position Summary
Incumbents of positions in this series test repair install and/or maintain various types of electrical systems and equipment; troubleshoot electrical and related equipment; maintain adequate inventory of equipment and materials; inspect the work of outside contractors; and determine materials and/or equipment necessary for a job and onthejob procedure changes. MassDOT utilizes the following Electrician position types:
- General Electrician.
- High Voltage Electrician (as defined and pursuant to National Electrical Code (NEC).
- Traffic Signal Electrician.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain repair and troubleshoot various electrical systems.
- Respond to emergencies such as: replacing bulbs and controllers realigning twisted
signal heads and repairing accident knockdowns. - Record accurate information for signal equipment pertaining to repairs signal
malfunctions and other records and reports. - Determine acceptable quality of materials and/or equipment necessary for a job to
ensure that completed work projects comply with specifications. - Maintain an adequate inventory of equipment and materials; troubleshoot electrical and
related equipment. - Perform emergency repairs and schedule maintenance tests and repairs on various
types of traffic signal systems. - Determine types and quantity of materials and equipment necessary to perform assigned
tasks. - Maintain records and reports by accurately recording information as to work progress
repairs performed date time arrived condition upon arrival and time completed. - Participate in the interim and final inspection of new and reconstructed traffic electrical
systems in the field. - Perform daytoday maintenance and emergency response duties.
- Perform other related electrical duties as required in coordination with other respective disciplines.
- Electricians are exposed to the hazards of high voltage; climb and work from ladders and scaffolds; may drive for job related travel; and may work various hours. This position requires the ability to respond to emergencies 24/7 as needed.
