K8 English Learner Coordinator
Job Description:
The K8 English Learner Coordinator is responsible for leading and managing the instruction and participation of English Learners in grades prek through 8 in our academic programs at the school level. These duties include:
- Participating in the interviewing hiring and onboarding new ESL teachers in collaboration with EL Director and School leaders
- Conducting the evaluation cycle for ESL teachers including observation and feedback pre and post observation meetings and formative and summative assessments.
- Collaborating with building principals on creating or improving teacher and student schedules in order to maximize ESL direct instruction minutes.
- Engaging in a curriculum review process and supporting teachers implementation of newly selected curriculum.
- Tracking ESL curriculum to ensure lesson plans and common assessments are aligned; reviewing weekly lesson plans and providing feedback and guidance for ESL teachers to improve instruction.
- Facilitating and leading student support meetings for students who do not meet their making progress target; using a Multi Tiered System of Support to utilize school based interventions.
- Planning and facilitating ACCESS testing for English Learners.
- Planning and facilitating MCAS supports and testing protocol for English Learners in grades 38.
- Collaborating with guidance counselors and administration to ensure appropriate scheduling for ELs including managing EL level changes throughout the year in X2.
- Supporting SEI content teachers and mainstream content teachers in best practices for ELs.
- Strengthening the coteaching model between ESL classroom teachers and special education teachers.
- Collaborating with family liaisons to plan and manage events that promote EL family involvement and education of U.S. school systems including two EL Family Nights
- Working with administration and family liaisons to facilitate schoolbased Newcomer Orientation
- Assisting content teachers ESL teachers and building leaders in their understanding of the WIDA Frameworks by way of professional development sessions principals meetings or grade level meetings.
- Analyzing EL data throughout the year to identify coaching priorities with teachers of ELs and to identify struggling ELs and assign appropriate supports and interventions. (iready IXL ACCESS MCAS)
- Collaborating with the EL Director and high school EL Department Head to strengthen vertical alignment for EL education EL level transitions and supplement programming.
- Assisting in the management of Title III initiatives and programming.
- Developing a bank of resources for educators including videos on instructional practices graphic organizers and templates.
- Collaborating with the schools ETL and special education teachers on best practices for dually identified students.
- Planning and facilitating Common Planning Time for all teachers on topics related including but not limited to: coplanning and coteaching scaffolding for ELs ACCESS data analysis and EL releveling.
- Facilitating and managing the completion of state required paperwork and compliance for EL instruction and participation including: opt out and FEL monitoring EL progress reports Parent Notification letters and management of schools EL folders
- Managing SLIFE identification and DOE reporting.
- Engaging in collaborative projects that align with the longterm vision and mission of the English Learner Department as directed by the Director of English Learners
- Creating and delivering professional development sessions that align with the mission and vision of the Everett Public Schools and the Department of English Learners on subjects related to equity and inclusion for all students.
- Contributing to an ESL newsletter for families students and community members.
- Attending ELPAC meetings and contributing to meeting agenda items.
- Serving as a member of the EL District Leadership team which works together to support the advancement of English learners. (programming decisions student support teams curriculum teams family engagement teams etc)
- Perform such other duties and assume all other responsibilities that may be assigned by the Superintendent Deputy Superintendent EL Director Principal and Vice Principal
PREREQUISITE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- A Masters degree from an accredited institution
- A graduate or undergraduate degree in ESL TESOL or Applied Linguistics
- 5 or more years teaching ESL experience EL/SEI teacher coaching experience
- Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education License in ESL
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- EPS respects linguistic diversity and believes that candidates who speak another language bring value to the district culture and diversity
- Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education License in Supervisor/Director
- Familiarity with the Everett Public Schools
SALARY:
- Based on the Everett Teachers Association salary scale.
- The stipend for this position is $3500 for Year 1 and $9000 for all subsequent years.
WORKING TIME:
ELL Coordinators will be required to work 199 days exclusive of holidays. The length of the work day will be 7:30 AM 3:00 PM.
The additional days outside of the teachers contract calendar are up to the discretion of the individual hired for this position with the exception of required days for professional development.
