Job Description

Salary/Position Classification

  • $75000 dependent on experience 9month contract Exempt
  • 40 hours per week
  • This position will work onsite the Grand Forks ND campus.

Purpose of Position

The Department of Energy & Petroleum Engineering (EPE) is seeking to hire a 9month OpenRank Teaching Professor to teach undergraduate and graduate courses and contribute to the mission of the department and the university through service activities. Depending on the successful candidates qualifications the position will be offered at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor Teaching Associate Professor or Teaching Professor.

The Department of Energy & Petroleum Engineering at the University of North Dakota (UND) invites applications for a nontenuretrack openrank Teaching Professor position. We seek a dynamic and innovative educator who is passionate about energy and petroleum engineering with a strong commitment to advancing teaching excellence. The successful candidate will design and deliver graduate and undergraduate courses that integrate modern petroleum and energy technologies contribute to curriculum advancement and support research activities.

Duties & Responsibilities

The successful applicant will receive a contract with an approximate distribution of 80 teaching 0 research and 20 service effort. UND and the College of Engineering & Mines value diverse perspectives and seek applicants to help students succeed. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong potential for highquality teaching in EPE courses supported by consistently high student evaluations. Develop highimpact online and oncampus courses (undergrads & grads) to expand the departments educational reach.

Required Competencies

  • Demonstrated expertise in petroleum and/or energy systems.
  • Proven experience in teaching curriculum development and instructional innovation at the university level.
  • Ability to integrate modern computational tools such as Python MATLAB HOMER SAM GAMS Vensim PowerSim etc. into teaching.
  • Strong communication skills and a commitment to student success.
  • Adaptability in teaching methods including online and hybrid course delivery.

Minimum Requirements

  • Ph.D. degree in Petroleum Engineering Energy Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate/graduate levels
  • Achieved a grade of A in all required petroleum and energy engineering courses that the candidate is expected to teach.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in applied energy projects with strong industry connections.
  • Experience mentoring students
  • Experience in developing and delivering graduatelevel petroleum and/or energy engineering courses.
  • Background in both conventional petroleum and energy technologies
  • Familiarity with online and hybrid teaching methodologies.
  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.
