Augustine Angels is seeking experienced oncall American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters to support a federal contract with the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division (NSWCCD). This role provides interpreting transliterating and sight translation services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (HoH) personnel in both inperson and virtual settings.
- Provide ASL interpreting transliterating and sight translation services for Deaf/HoH employees
- Accurately interpret in both voicetosign and signtovoice scenarios using ASL PSE MCE Contact Sign or Oral Transliteration
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times
- Be available for scheduled events and respond to shortnotice interpreting needs 24hour turnaround)
- Arrive onsite at least 15 minutes prior to scheduled assignments
- Must reside within 50 miles of Washington D.C. Metro area
- Must be fluent in ASL with a minimum of 3 years of professional interpreting experience
- Current valid certification from RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) required
- Must uphold the Code of Professional Conduct (CPC)
- Demonstrated ability to convey nuance tone and meaning effectively
- Skilled in interpreting for a variety of communication modes and settings
- Must pass internal screening for language fluency and ethical competence
- Assignments may occur onsite 9500 MacArthur Blvd West Bethesda MD) or virtually (via MS Teams or similar platforms)
- Must have reliable internet access for virtual assignments
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and pass facility access requirements
