Job Description

JOB TITLE: School Psychologist

QUALIFICATIONS: Masters degree from an approved school psychology program and successful completion of all assigned practicum and internship requirements; or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge skills and ability required to perform the work.

REPORTS TO: The Director of Special Education

JOB GOAL: Conducts assessments and evaluates the needs and educational programs of referred students; acts as a consultant to staff and parents regarding student learning concerns; and assists in team planning and screening efforts within assigned buildings.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintains and respects confidentiality of students and school personnel information while maintaining the safety and welfare for all students and staff members.
  2. Conducts classroom observations and individual psychological evaluations and consults with appropriate professional persons regarding implications placement and results.
  3. Maintains accurate case records of all psychological services provided.
  4. Attends multidisciplinary team meetings on placement of individual students.
  5. Establishes procedures for placement assessment and reassessment of students with regard to the special education services program.
  6. Prepares and submits required reports on students with disabilities and special education programs in a timely fashion.
  7. Has experience and/or the foundational knowledge to conduct psychoeducational evaluations through a Patterns of Strengths and Weaknesses model.
  8. Provide training and other skillenhancement activities to students staff parents and others within the community regarding the issues of human development learning and behavior as well as parenting skills instructional methods and behavior management.
  9. Consults with private and/or public practitioners regarding student progress and/or needs.
  10. Consults and/or counsels with students school staff and parents regarding academic and/or personal/social needs; provides information regarding community services available to students; makes appropriate referrals regarding vocational needs of students.
  11. Assist teachers in developing specific instructional strategies or programs for students.
  12. Cooperates with staff members and parents in maintaining a positive climate during meetings and/or conferences.
  13. Possesses knowledge of federal state and local laws regulation and policies regarding childrens special education eligibility and programming.
  14. Assumes responsibility for compiling maintaining and filing all reports records and other documents legally required or administratively useful. Coordinates all evaluations and special student files and assures that all requirements are met for perfect or near perfect monitoring reports.
  15. Attends staff professional and interagency meetings.
  16. Maintains knowledge of all laws administrative codes and court precedence related to education of exceptional children.
  17. Maintains current knowledge of state and federal legislation related to disabilities; enhances personal knowledge through participation in case conferences inservice training professional organizations meetings and ongoing program and theoretical research in the field of school psychology; may serve on related committees.
  18. Completes other functions or tasks as assigned by the Director of Special Education or required of this position.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    LENGTH: 180 day work year plustwenty 20 extended days.

    SALARY AND BENEFITS:As determined by the Board of Directors state law local board policy and the collective bargaining agreement: an additional $5000 annual compensation for psychologists with NASP certification.

    EVALUATION: At least annually on/before May 1st by the Director of Special Education or designee. New or probationary employees are evaluated more often as per state law WACs GEA contract and district policy
