Job Description

Senior Hospital Inpatient Coding Specialist (Remote)

Were seeking an experienced Inpatient Coding Specialist to join our healthcare coding team. In this role youll utilize your expertise in ICD10CM and ICD10PCS coding to ensure accurate medical record coding for hospital inpatient services directly impacting healthcare quality metrics and revenue cycle management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assign and validate ICD10CM and ICD10PCS codes for hospital inpatient records
  • Review and analyze medical record content and computerassisted coding (CAC) suggestions
  • Determine accurate DRG assignments and presentonadmission (POA) indicators
  • Evaluate hierarchical condition categories (HCCs) and complication/comorbidity factors
  • Perform clinical documentation analysis to ensure coding accuracy
  • Maintain productivity standards of 2.75 charts per hour
  • Achieve 95 accuracy rate in coding audits
  • Monitor and validate CAC software performance
  • Abstract essential healthcare data elements

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of acute care inpatient facility coding experience
  • Current certification in one of the following:
    • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
    • Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT)
    • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ICD10CM and ICD10PCS coding systems
  • Understanding of DRG methodology and healthcare reimbursement systems
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and coding software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Health Information Management
  • Experience with natural language processing and CAC systems
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements and coding guidelines
