Job Overview: The Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney is seeking a qualified attorney to represent Hamilton County Department of Job & Family Services (HCJFS) in child abuse neglect and dependency matters. The attorney hired will fill a position as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney (APA) and will practice before the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas Juvenile Division the First District Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Ohio. The APA shall have a firm foundation in legal research and writing demonstrate competence possess the highest integrity and display strong time management skills.
Responsibilities and Duties: - Provide legal advice and consultation to as well as legal representation for caseworkers and management at the HCJFS on matters involving child abuse neglect and dependency as well as youth with an open Childrens Services case that have been adjudicated delinquent. Cases include voluntary protective cases as well as children in the status of interim protective supervision interim custody protective supervision temporary custody planned permanent living arrangement and permanent custody of the agency.
- Analyze legal issues and assess feasibility of court action.
- Conduct legal research and writing on various legal issues.
- Review prepare and draft discovery requests.
- Draft complaints motions legal briefs appeals and other pleadings for court involved cases.
- Respond to motions filed by opposing parties.
- Serve as the trial attorney for HCJFS by attending and participating in all stages of the court proceedings including: preliminary protective hearings; pretrial adjudication disposition and postdisposition hearings; review and annual review hearings; motions to set aside and objection hearings; and appeals.
- Work professionally with members of the Prosecutors Office opposing counsel court personnel law enforcement agencies and the public.
- Perform all other duties assigned delegated or required by supervisor or the Prosecuting Attorney as well as those prescribed by law.
- Serve on an oncall rotation after normal business hours and weekends to provide legal advice and consultation to HCJFS for issues regarding emergency removal telephonic orders medical emergencies or any other emergent matter. This includes attendance at any hearings scheduled by the Court during nonbusiness hours when the hearing falls on your assigned rotation.
- Provide legal training to HCJFS social workers and staff when requested.

Qualifications: - Juris Doctorate
- Licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio.
- Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills that include the ability to effectively communicate and interact with the client the Court legal professionals and other stakeholders.
- Critical thinking and decision making skills;Detail oriented;Flexible and quickthinking;Quick learning ability when new tasks are required;Good time management;Prioritize all job duties to ensure accurate and timely completion of responsibilities.
- Possess excellent research and writing skills with requisite understanding of relevant legal issues.
- Knowledge of computers and computer operating systems with ability to learn Matrix case management system; Knowledge of LexisNexis Legal Research product.
- Possess qualities of fairness a strong work ethic and the highest integrity.
- Confidentiality is essential. Background check required.
- Able to conduct business in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code the Ohio Rules of Juvenile Procedure and other state and federal laws.
- Able to perform all other duties assigned delegate or required of an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney as well as those prescribed by law.
