Histology Lab Technician
Port Jefferson NY
Hours: MF (Overnight Hours)

In this role you will:
- Under general supervision and according to policies and procedures performs routine and nonroutine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by a pathologist(s).
- Capable of performing all of the duties/responsibilities of a Histotechnician.
- Ensure proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples.
- Process paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting.
- Ensure proper tissue processing embedding and microtomy.
- Perform coverslipping of stained slides either manually or automated.
- Performs recuts requested by a Pathologist.
- Prepare solutions and reagents for stain procedures.
- Perform stains procedures.
- Well experienced in IHC instrumentation and stains.
- Perform filing of finished blocks and slides.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment and troubleshooting minor equipment failures. Document remedial actions such as repairs and repeated tests.
- Adhere to the laboratorys quality control policies and document all quality control activities.
- Ensure all corporate safety quality control and quality assurance standards are met.
- Ensure compliance with all local federal NY State CLIA and CAP regulations.
- Maintain a clean and wellorganized work area.
- Responsible for training and crosstraining other employees.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
We require:
- H.S. diploma or equivalency required
- 1 year of experience in Histology laboratory or Medical Technologist.
- ASCP Certification (HT/HTL or MS/MLS) strongly preferred
- NYS licensure required as Histology Technician or Medical Technologist.
