Job Summary:
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in assisting individuals with disabilities in daily activities. You will provide personal care companionship and emotional support to clients while promoting independence and community involvement. The ideal candidate will be patient empathetic and ready to provide excellent care to our clients in their homes or community settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist individuals with daily living tasks including personal hygiene grooming dressing and meal preparation.
- Support clients in maintaining a clean and safe living environment.
- Provide transportation for clients to appointments community activities and errands.
- Help clients with mobility and physical activities including exercises and recreational activities.
- Support clients in developing and maintaining social skills and independent living skills.
- Monitor clients physical and emotional wellbeing reporting any changes to the supervisor or healthcare team.
- Assist with medication reminders and administration as prescribed.
- Ensure clients rights and privacy are respected maintaining a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
- Foster positive relationships with clients their families and other care team members.
- Participate in training and staff meetings to improve skills and stay updated on best practices.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience in home care healthcare or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Compassionate patient and caring attitude toward individuals with disabilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist clients with mobility needs.
- Ability to bend stoop and assist clients in a variety of physical activities.
