Job Summary
Works in person at the Writing Center during scheduled hours providing instructional support to students on an individual dropin basis to help with any aspect of writing related to LBCC course work.
Required Qualifications
Education and Experience: Position requires successful completion of WR 121with a B or above and recommendation of at least one English faculty member. Knowledge and Skills: Requires strong knowledge of college composition and rhetoric. Must be proficient with or nearing proficiency with grammar and mechanics varieties of writing processes and research strategies. Requires strong communication skills to interact with and tutor students with diverse backgrounds and varying levels of ability on an informal level. Abilities: Requires the ability to perform the essential responsibilities of the position under limited supervision. Must have demonstrated ability to understand and interpret staff instructions in order to assist students and support colleagues. Requires the ability to understand the needs and differences of adult students and appropriately respond to those needs. Must be able to sensitively deal with students in helping with academic performance. Requires the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in oral and written English. Must be able to operate general office equipment including computers for word processing.
Preferred Qualifications
Prefer completion of course work at LBCC with additional writing classes beyond WR121. Prefer recommendation from LBCC writing faculty. Prefer experience tutoring or teaching adults.
