The selected candidates start date will be determined in coordination with their school schedule to ensure a smooth transition into the role. POSITION SUMMARY The Intern Gaming Commission position offers an opportunity to gain handson experience with governance within the Tribal Gaming industry. This role provides exposure to board operations regulatory compliance and strategic decisionmaking processes equipping interns with invaluable insights and skills for navigating governance challenges in a dynamic regulatory environment. Through this internship participants will engage directly with board members and senior staff contributing to the development and implementation of governance frameworks and policies. This position is designed for Preference Candidates. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi reserves the right to change amend add delete and otherwise assign any and all duties responsibilities and position titles as it deems necessary to meet the needs of the government. - Attend Commission meetings and other regulatory proceedings to understand the decisionmaking process policy discussions and regulatory enforcement actions.
- Shadow Commissioners and Agency staff to learn about their responsibilities and how they navigate gaming regulation.
- Assist in the review of compliance or audit findings enforcement actions or investigations learning about the regulatory responses to violations or issues.
- Under supervision review license applications or renewal submissions to ensure completeness and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Document observations and insights gained from attending meetings and sessions.
- Create portfolio and deliver a presentation to summarize and share the learning experiences and findings from their internship with the Commissioners.
- Must be able to complete required training modules conducted through webbased portals.
- Scheduled Work Hours: The Intern will be required to report for a total of six meetings from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM every other Wednesday subject to scheduling adjustments based on organization need.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS An applicants education training and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that the applicant possesses the ability to successfully perform each of the essential functions. The requirements listed below are generally representative of the education experience and skills and/or ability required to enable one to successfully perform the essential functions associated with his position: - Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be enrolled as a Senior in high school for the Fall 2024 semester/term or possess a High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate.
- Able to understand gain knowledge and appreciate the difference of Native American culture and customs.
- Must be able to successfully complete and pass a comprehensive background investigation and drug screening.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal/human relation skills.
- Demonstrated computer skills including word processing and spreadsheets and knowledge of other office equipment is required.
- Ability to organize and maintain electronic and physical files.
- Ability to read and interpret documents.
- Ability to work well in a team centered environment.
- Possess a professional demeanor and appearance.
