McMurry University is seeking a passionate and visionary Director of Bands to lead growth and development within the instrumental side of the Department of Music including the McMurry Marching War Hawks and McMurry Wind Ensemble. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic leader with a commitment to student success exceptional musicianship and a proven record of creative recruiting strategies. This position offers the opportunity to help shape the future of the McMurry music program inspire the next generation of student musicians and collaborate with faculty and staff to elevate our universitys musical presence both on campus and in the community. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Lead and direct the McMurry Marching War Hawks and the McMurry Wind Ensemble Develop and implement innovative strategies to actively recruit and retain talented students growing the size and quality of the instrumental program. Foster a supportive environment that promotes student learning growth and engagement Collaborate with the McMurrys admissions office music faculty and community stakeholders to enhance recruitment efforts. Plan and execute performances for athletic events campus activities community outreach and other occasions that showcase the bands talents. Provide instruction in music education and other related topics as needed. Manage the McMurry Marching War Hawk and McMurry Band budgets resources and operations effectively ensuring alignment with university policies Build strong relationships with alumni donors and community members to support the bands growth and visibility Promote creativity teamwork and leadership among band members through rehearsals performances and mentorship. Stay current with trends and best practices in music education and successful program operations. Additional duties will be assigned based on the strengths of the selected candidate and may include teaching academic courses in the department with the possibility of teaching applied instrumental lessons of the candidates primary instrument
Preferred Qualifications
Qualifications: Masters degree in Music or a related field (Doctorate preferred) Demonstrated experience in leading and growing a successful band program at the high school collegiate or professional level. Strong skills in recruitment communication and collaboration. Creativity in designing engaging performances and programming. Proficiency in instrumental conducting rehearsal techniques and music education. Ability to work evenings weekends and travel as required for performances and recruiting events.
