This permanent fulltime position located in Charleston Oregon.

Help the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife fulfill its mission: To protect and enhance Oregons fish and wildlife and their habitats for use and enjoyment by present and future generations.

As a Supervising Fish and Wildlife Biologist in Charleston Oregon you will direct and implement all fish management activities within the Coos/Coquille/Tenmile Fish District in ODFWs Umpqua Watershed District. The fish district manages fish stocks and protects and restores habitat in service of ODFWs mission. Specific direction and policy for these programs comes from the Fish and Wildlife Commission the Fish and Habitat Divisions the West Region Manager and the Umpqua Watershed Manager. Duties include:

  • Supervision of district fisheries staff

  • Establishment and maintenance of partnerships with Tribal governments local conservation and recreation organizations federal state and local governments and various other entities

  • Coordination and oversight of District fisheries management activities including volunteer activities habitat protection and restoration inventory of habitat and fisheries resources and hatchery activities

  • Development and maintenance of strong public relations

This position requires a Hazardous Waste Operations Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training certification and AllTerrain Vehicle (ATV) Safety Education Card be obtained within six months of hire.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of biological experience performing studies research or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program. At least one year of the experience must be at a technical or professional level performing activities in a fish or wildlife program such as researching and analyzing data conducting investigations applying pertinent laws and regulations or coordinating and monitoring project activities; AND A Bachelors degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science or a closelyrelated Bachelors degree with at least 45 quarter 30 semester) hours of biological/ecological coursework

OR

three additional years of biological experience performing studies research or resource management activities in a fisheries or wildlife program.

One year of experience must have included leadwork or supervisory duties.
