Ample opportunities exist for collaboration with researchers from the Department of Life Sciences and the Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences as well as from the Universitys strong portfolio of research institutions such as the Harte Research Institute Center for Coastal Studies and Conrad Blucher Institute and agencies such as Texas A&M AgriLifeCorpus Christi. Our unique location and proximity to coastal marshes wetlands mangroves and other vegetation types provide many opportunities for research and teaching.
The Department of Life Sciences has 23 fulltime tenured or tenuretrack faculty five professional track faculty and over 1200 science majors (including undergraduate and graduate students) offering B.S. degrees in both Biology and Biomedical Science M.S. degrees in Biology (and a possible concentration in Biomedical Sciences) Marine Biology and Fisheries and Mariculture and a Ph.D. in Marine Biology. This position may also further expand and complement the Coastal and Marine System Science M.S. and Ph.D. programs and the Chemistry M.S. program. During the last three years the Departments research activities have resulted in an annual average of 20 grants (including NSF NOAA EPA USDA and NIH) with research expenditures in the range of $3000000.
The Department of Life Sciences is housed in the recently constructed 2019 Tidal Hall with:
108000 Gross Square Feet / 65000 Usable Square Feet
3 floors plus a machinery floor on the roof
63640 square foot general research labs plus support rooms
Nine teaching labs including three BSL2 teaching labs.
44 Faculty/Staff offices
Desk areas for graduate students and postdocs
Genomics Core Laboratory and HighPerformance Computing Cluster
Required Qualifications:
Assistant Rank:
Doctoral degree in biology biomedical sciences or related discipline. While Advanced ABD will be considered degree must be conferred at the time of appointment.
A strong publication record in leading and high impact journals.
Associate Rank:
Doctoral degree in biology biomedical sciences or related discipline.
A strong publication record in leading and high impact journals.
Five 5 years of fulltime university faculty experience including at least four 4 years in the rank of assistant professor. Related professional experience may substitute in rare cases.
Preferred Qualifications:
Postdoctoral experience
Universitylevel teaching experience
Individuals capable of building an active externally funded research program
Demonstrated experience and innovative pedagogical approaches to teaching undergraduate and graduate students from various backgrounds
Engagement in service activities to support institutional professional society and community goals
