Job Description

Position Summary
Under the supervision of Villanova Theatres Technical Director (TD) the Assistant Technical Director ATD implements the technical theatre elements related to scenic designs for Villanova Theatre productions and performative events including plays musicals stage/concert readings showcases and workshops. The ATD will work on Villanova Theatre (VT) graduate productions Villanova Student Musical Theatre VSMT productions and Villanova Student Theatre VST productions. ATD will serve as Master Carpenter for all Villanova Theatre productions and will supervise graduate and undergraduate students in the build and of set designs for each production. ATD will participate in the build and loadin of each set and will oversee and run the strike of each production.

Duties And Responsibilities
Serve as Master Carpenter for Villanova Theatre productions executing the build and construction of theatrical set pieces according to drawing and specifications made by the set designer and Technical Director. Supervise and Train graduate and undergraduate students in the construction of theatrical set pieces. Work with the set designer and Technical Director to achieve the set design for each production. Advise the undergraduate theatre groups in the set design and build of their productions. Attend production meetings as requested by the Technical Director and Production Manager. Participate in loadin for all graduate and undergraduate productions. Attend technical rehearsals and work calls during tech as requested. Run the set strike for each production.

Minimum Qualifications
Associates Degree. Demonstrated skill in theatrical carpentry. Firm understanding of construction tools/equipment and safety. Demonstrated experience mentoring students with various levels of experience. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Evening and weekend work required. Must be comfortable working at heights on catwalks ladders and in genies.

Preferred Qualifications
Additional skills in drafting welding rigging or CNC operation a plus.
