Job Description Summary

The Senior Accounting Specialist is responsible for maintaining the financial records of the College by computing classifying and accurately recording daytoday transactions. This position performs and verifies the accuracy of other employees routine financial calculations and general ledger entries as well as helps to ensure compliance with federal state and college rules procedures and regulations in order to maintain the fiscal reporting integrity of the College. This position also coordinates with staff in various departments to resolve differences found in reconciliations.

Job Description

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Reviews and reconciles Pell Grants and Direct Loans monthly by comparing financial aid records to Finance and COD systems; identifies discrepancies for Student Accounts to address.

  • Supports summarylevel reconciliations by verifying financial data for compliance audits and providingnecessary documentation to Student Accounts.

  • Conducts Bright Futures reconciliations at required intervals reviewing records for accuracy and coordinatingwith Student Accounts to process any necessary fund adjustments or returns.

  • Reconciles state financial aid programs each term including CDDV FSAGCE FSAGPU HDGAP FGMGOpen Door First Responders and RFS ensuring accurate reporting and collaborating with StudentAccounts for fund management.

  • Reviews and verifies reconciliation of miscellaneous scholarships foundation scholarships and private loans; identifies discrepancies and coordinating resolution with Student Accounts.

  • Assists in the preparation of the Direct Loan Volume Report ensuring accuracy in financial aid disbursementdata before submission.

  • Works with Student Accounts to compile and validate data for the completion of the FISAP report.

  • Supports state and federal audits by gathering and verifying data related to Bright Futures Pell Grants SEOG FWS and Direct Loans ensuring compliance and assisting with audit responses.

  • Monitors Federal WorkStudy (FWS) and SEOG tracking reviews expenditures and program compliancewhile coordinating with Student Accounts for fund management.

  • Collaborates with Student Accounts staff each term to review undisbursed awards ensuring appropriateactions are taken to resolve outstanding items.

  • Participates in weekly financial aid leadership meetings to discuss reconciliation findings and coordinates withStudent Accounts on financial operations.

  • Provides institutional knowledge and guidance.

  • Complies with all published College Rules procedures guidelines and laws/regulations governing public employees including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction FERPA and confidentiality.

  • Strictly honors the privacy security and confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state federal and college regulations policies and procedures.

  • Provides service excellence through courteous informed accessible and professional engagement.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: An associates degree with four 4 years of experience or a combination of education and/or experience equal to six 6 years.

Preferred: A bachelors degree in accounting business or finance with prior experience working within an accounting and/or finance function as well as experience working in a higher education institution.
