Job Title: Design and Development Engineer Location: Salem NH Purpose of Position: Team Wendy is recognized as a world leader in head ballistic & impact protection delivering life critical solutions for Militaries and Frist Responders worldwide. Team Wendy Ceradyne a subsidiary of Team Wendy is looking to fill the Design & Development Engineer role. This individual will be responsible for developing testing and validating ideas for personal safety products into functional prototypes and production ready designs using efficient affordable and customizable processes and techniques. The position will be handling preparations for design briefs researching potential material and production methos use of engineering software to refine and develop the product as well as building and evaluation functional prototypes to industry test standards This position will collaborate with Design Prototyping and Program Management Teams. Essential duties and/or Functions: (Essential Functions/basic job duties that must be able to be performed with or without reasonable accommodation) - Design and Development: Lead the design development and testing of new ballistic protection materials systems and technologies to improve performance against various threat levels (e.g. projectiles blast shrapnel).
- Material Research: Conduct extensive research on innovative materials such as composite fibers polymers ceramics and metals to develop and enhance ballisticresistant properties.
- Testing & Evaluation: Develop and execute testing protocols to evaluate the performance durability and safety of new ballistic protection products. Interpret test data to recommend design modifications and improvements.
- Prototyping & Manufacturing Support: Work closely with manufacturing teams to develop prototypes and oversee the transition of successful designs to production. Support the scalability and costeffective manufacturing of products.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with other engineers researchers and subject matter experts to analyze threat environments understand specific customer requirements and translate them into tangible product solutions.
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure that all products comply with relevant military law enforcement and safety standards and regulations. Stay up to date with advancements in ballistic protection and industry standards.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of experiments tests and design iterations. Prepare technical reports documentation and presentations for internal stakeholders and customers.
- Innovation & Problem Solving: Proactively identify potential advancements or areas of improvement in ballistic protection technologies. Solve complex engineering problems related to material properties performance and system integration.
Required Qualifications: - Bachelors degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering Materials Science Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 35 years of experience in R&D engineering preferably in defense protective equipment or materials science.
- Proficiency with CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks AutoCAD) for design and prototyping.
- Familiarity with ballistic testing methods and relevant standards (e.g. NIJ MILSTD).
- Handson experience with laboratory testing materials characterization and failure analysis techniques.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and utilize data to inform design decisions.
- Excellent problemsolving skills with the ability to think critically and innovate solutions in a highpressure environment.
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written for technical documentation and crossfunctional collaboration.
- Good organizational and work planning skills
- Ability to work in a teamoriented environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications: - Strong knowledge of ballistic protection materials and technologies including composites ceramics and metals used in armor systems.
- Knowledge of patenting and intellectual property processes related to engineering innovations.
- Ability to make read and understand engineering drawings dimensions tolerances
- Experience with custom plastic manufacturing processes
- Experience in additive manufacturing
- Solidworks and Camworks experience
