Pay is based on the location of the selected applicant; salaries will be discussed at the time of the interview.

What you will be doing:
As a Planner 1 this position is focused on triaging requests for processing project specific requests for federal transportation funding; and project requests may be for new project starts modifications to existing projects authority to proceed; The position will learn and assist with modifications to plans programs or projects with increasing legal requirements and learn about GIS requirements as they apply to funding decisions.As a Planner 2 this position performs more complex and difficult assignments with greater independence. Such assignments include working on more detailed reports projects and appropriation requirements and special data requests involving greater data research and gathering of information; works with federalaid database systems and management focuses on determining when project requests meet or exceed plans programs or projects and the necessary actions to include projects exceeding plans into the plans. The position will assist with providing reports to program managers for managing Statewide financial plans and completing adjustments to plans programs or projects with increasing legal requirements.
As a Planner 3 this position performs the highest level of duties independently including reviewing Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) issued apportionment notices for special conditions or limitations; determining whether the project meets federal and state requirements and apportionment eligibility; reviewing funding requests including confirming or assigning a project location based on GIS data; and assisting and training other planners to perform the tasks associated with the Federal Aid section. Conceptualizes proposes formats and completes reports for project managers and Department leadership teams independently and assists with maintaining federalaid updates to data systems and data management.

The preferred location for this position is Juneau however the position may be filled in Juneau Anchorage or Fairbanks depending on the selected applicant. The ideal candidate will possess the following position specific competencies:Analysis and Assessment: Uses information technology in accessing collecting analyzing maintaining and disseminating data and information.

BACKGROUND CHECK
This position requires an authority to access a federal database system. The Federal Authorization process requires an identity verification process similar to the Real ID process which includes similar steps to a background check without fingerprinting.
FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This position is flexibly staffed. It may be filled at the 1 2 or 3 level depending on the applicants training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at a lower level promotion to the higher level will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
