Job Description:
For the Algonquin College Centre of Construction Excellence (ACCE) the incumbent is responsible for providing support and technical assistance for trades programming as required to Faculty and/or other staff in their delivery of skillsbased learning.
The incumbent manages all aspects of the supply and equipment for the Faculty and/or other staff to include maintenance support/maintenance scheduling setting up and tearing down laboratory sessions orientation in usage of equipment and maintenance of equipment inventory.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Creates an ongoing preventative maintenance schedule to select and maintain tools equipment and machinery in proper working order including routine cleanliness maintenance sharpening and tuneup;
Assesses the working condition of tools equipment and machinery;
Installs maintains tests troubleshoots repairs and replaces or arranges for such work on an as required basis;
Works with faculty and administration to purchase materials tools equipment and machinery for programming including liaising with outside contractors and suppliers for procurement of quotes for services and supplies needed by the faculty and programs;
Uses computer/college software for receiving purposes; prepares and provides ordering information to administration; purchases and arranges for delivery and if needed picks up materials;
Receives stores organizes tracks and maintains inventory; prepares and distributes material tools tool kits and equipment for use;
Ensures equipment materials supplies and tools are safely transported installed and stored on all sites;
Maintains tool cabinets for programs in an orderly fashion that assists in keeping track of inventory and promotes safety;
Moves and stores supplies materials tools equipment and student projects for courses to assist in the smooth functioning of the shop environments;
Coordinates sustainable removal of debris and dust collection bins (related to academic programming);
Cleans and maintains the ACCE storage areas and loading dock by making space available distributing mail packing and warehousing items to protect against damage breakage and inclement weather and maintaining inventory;
Liaises with supervisor college safety advisors and suppliers to ensure technical and safety requirements are achieved concerning new tools equipment and machinery requirements (e.g. electrical dust collection shipping and installment recommendations) for future on and off campus locations;
Supports faculty and students to help ensure that all shop related safety measures shop policies and procedures are adhered to by all users;
Monitors equipment operation for safety hazards and acts as appropriate to help ensure safety requirements are achieved on existing and future sites;
Maintains the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) and other safety measures/documents for the shop;
As necessary liaises with administration faculty physical resources department and/or outside contractors manufacturers tradespeople or suppliers etc. concerning technical requirements project requirements and/or critical equipment failure and repair;
Arranges for forklift maintenance on a regular basis and conducts daily maintenance and inspections; maintains forklift activity record and log; arranges for service as required.
Required Qualifications:
Two 2 year diploma or equivalent in Construction Mechanical or related discipline;
Valid drivers license; and Forklift and Skid Steer certification;
Minimum of five 5 years experience in a construction or mechanical field with time spent organizing and maintaining a tradesrelated shop environment;
Ability to set operate maintain calibrate repair replace troubleshoot and install all hand tools power tools equipment and machinery used in the carpentry trades;
Experience with operation of a shear and the handling of gas gas manifolds and gas cylinders;
Excellent interpersonal skills;
Strong analytical and problemsolving skills;
Welldeveloped verbal and writing skills to effectively communicate with staff.
Anticipated Weekly Schedule:
Five 5 hours Monday to Thursday and four 4 hours on Friday
