Job Description

The UI Addiction and Recovery Collaborative (UI ARC) in the Department of Psychiatry is seeking a fulltime Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to assist medical staff with patient care. This position serves as an integral member of the UI ARC team that provides care services resources and support to people who have substance use or mental health disorders. As an LPN you will perform technical assessments process medication refill requests complete prior authorizations gather patient information and assist medical providers to deliver quality patient care.

v This position will be based at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics main campus.

v This position is primarily during 1st shift 8:00 AM 5:00 PM Monday Friday.

v Merit pay grade 11. Merit Pay Plans.

v 50100 full or part time option.

Position Responsibilities
Perform and document physical assessments which may include vital signs and current medical history. Recognize and notate relevant observations pertaining to patients medical conditions. Document and/or review all pertinent data including allergies current medications and health history.

Perform various screening tests in preparation for patients physical examination.

Administer medications give injections monitor intravenous fluids and perform treatments which are within the practical nurse scope of practice. Observe and document patient reactions to medications and treatments and initiate emergency treatment as indicated.

Perform assessments including opioid withdrawal symptoms alcohol withdrawal symptoms oxygen saturation and blood glucose levels.

Assist in examinations of patients diagnostic procedures and minor therapeutic procedures.

Provide patient education regarding diagnosis medication and treatment under direct or indirect supervision of the provider or as directed by clinic protocols.

Provide treatments according to standardized protocols. Assist with providing patient instructions/information including the specific procedures/protocols for followup care.

Initiate basic cardiac life support and assists in emergency situations as needed.

Assure timely reporting of lab work to providers and nursing staff and enter lab values into EPIC.

Request appropriate transfer of records as directed by providers or requested by patient.

Maintain appropriate inventory of medical equipment and patient education materials in patient examination areas.

Maintain responsibility for screening and directing communication between clinic staff consulting staff continuing care providers students university faculty and staff and the public.

Responsible for evaluating and documenting function of emergency equipment and for maintaining stock medication supplies.

May exercise functional supervision over students or health aids.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements
Licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with the Iowa Board of Nursing or eligible for temporary work permit. Responsible to take the required continuing education hours to maintain a valid LPN certification.

Completion of Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.

Desirable Qualification
Previous experience working with patient populations experiencing mental health and/or substance use disorders.
