THIS RECRUITMENT IS FOR DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION EMPLOYEES ONLY

This position is being recruited for in Anchorage Soldotna Wasilla Fairbanks or Juneau.

Pay will be determined based on location of selected individual.


Anchorage Soldotna Wasilla salary: $3915.20

Fairbanks salary: $4032.80

Juneau salary: $4111.20


What you will be doing:

As the Section Supervisor you will train and manage a hardworking talented small group of permit writers who keep Alaska industry rolling within the bounds of Clean Air Act requirements. You will be a soughtafter technical expert on air quality regulations and communicate directly with industry sources and applicants to ensure smooth communications and fast response. You will directly assist the Program Manager in technical aspects of Federal rulemakings and the direction of the Program.

No day is routine in Air Permits where communication with permittees applicants and staff ensure that individual projects or tasks continue to progress the programs goals. The daily routine can be tailored to help everyone succeed in accomplishing goals.


We are looking for a candidate that has experience in the following areas:

  • Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving:uses a logical systematic sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on ones knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
  • Flexibility: Is open to change and new information; rapidly adapts to new information changing conditions or unexpected obstacles.
  • Interpersonal Skills:Treats others with courtesy sensitivity and respect. Considers and responds appropriately to the needs and feelings of different people in different situations.

Special Notice:
  • Requires periodic inState travel for training or for industry permitrelated conferences.
  • May require extended travel outofstate for technical training or industryrelated conferences or workshops.
  • Requires use of State jobspecific database systems and computer systems. Extensive knowledge of AERMOD computerbased dispersion modeling software and analyses.
  • Requires extensive knowledge of State air quality regulations Federal Clean Air Act regulations and the States permitting system.

Minimum Qualifications

An ABETaccredited bachelors degree in engineering.

AND

Two years of engineering experience as an Engineering Associate 1 (or the equivalent) with the State of Alaska or elsewhere.

Or:

A nonABETaccredited bachelors degree with a major in engineering.

AND

An EngineerInTraining (EIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.

AND

Two years of engineering experience as an Engineering Associate 1 (or the equivalent) with the State of Alaska or elsewhere.

Or:

An ABETaccredited masters degree in engineering.

AND

One year of engineering experience as an Engineering Associate 1 (or the equivalent) with the State of Alaska or elsewhere.

Special Notes:

ABET means Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology per 12 AAC 36.9907.

Some positions require the incumbent to have specific education and/or experience in a particular branch of engineering. This requirement will be addressed in the Position Description and job posting.
