Job Description

Eskasoni School Board is looking to hire Before and Afterschool Program Monitors. 4 positions to fill)


Reporting to: Student Liaison Faith Gould

Hours of work: 8:00 am to 3:00 pm (with flexible hours for lunch and breaks)

Location: Eskasoni Elementary & Middle School

Employment status: Casual term employment until June 2025

Salary: $25007.00

The program is scheduled to be offered until June. It runs with the school schedule. The program will not be available on PD days and storm days. The program is available to students in grades kindergarten to grade 8 for early morning dropoff and lunch program.


Summary of the program:


The Before and Afterschool Program Monitor is available to students at Eskasoni Elementary and Middle School. The program promotes health wellbeing and a physically active lifestyle. Students will engage in cultural activities sports games crafts and tutoring. Program Monitors will assist with stepup/cleanup for the program engage and participate with children during program activities and provide a safe environment for all program participants.


Responsibilities:

  • Deliveryof handson program activities;
  • Provide a safe inclusive and positive environment for children and youth;
  • Treat all students in a respectful responsible and fair manner;
  • Ensure students are supervised at all times;
  • Demonstrate fair judgment and respond appropriately to student interactions and conflicts that may arise;
  • Setup/take down and preparationof materials;
  • Delivery of breakfast program;
  • Liaise with team lead for procurement of supplies/equipment for program activities;
  • Lead by example and form positive relationships with students;
  • Ensure the safety of students in the program by following proper safeguarding procedures;
  • Document and communicate incidents accidents or damages while supervising the program and reporting and recording program attendance.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma (preferred).
  • Must have experience working with children and youth (for ex: school setting/day camp/childcare).
  • Ability to supervise students.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in English and Mikmaq.
  • First Aid and WHMIS required or willingness to obtain upon hire.
  • Food handling certificate or willingness to obtain upon hire.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with students school staff and parents.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of program participants parents/guardians and school staff.


Please note that successful candidates must provide a current satisfactory criminal record with a vulnerable sector check child abuse registry check prior to commencing employment.


Preference will be given to Indigenous people in accordance with the Aboriginal Employment Preferences Policy of the Canadian Human Rights Commission.
