Under the supervision of the Admission and Registration Supervisor in collaboration with Patient Care Unit Manager the Principal Admitting Worker is generally assigned a primary work unit but may rotate or be assigned to any area or site as outlined in the Admitting Department Expectations. The Principal Admitting Worker is responsible for greeting patient identification checkin and registering patients and coordinating escort upon arrival for services and/or after triage by the nurse. The registration process includes gathering financial and demographic information cash collection and entering it into the computer system quickly and accurately. The Principal Admitting Worker must understand their role and be able to provide superior customer service and maintain a high degree of professionalism. He or she is required to utilize a variety of hospital information systems to effectively communicate with patients and visitors and to effectively respond to inquiries. The Admitting Representative must comply with all guidelines put forth by the Medical Center Policies and ProcedureAll Admitting Workers have a critical influence on a patients health care experience in our Medical Center and must act as an ambassadors of services. The incumbent is responsible for meeting patient needs demonstrating a willingness to learn new skills and fostering a harmonious work environment in which highquality patient care and customer service are consistently provided. Team members promote a cooperative working relationship with each other physicians other disciplines and the public by facilitating and enhancing communication displaying honesty and respect displaying sensitivity to cultural differences and expressing and accepting feedback professionally.This position requires crosstraining in Financial Counseling and assistance with Senior Admitting functions as needed. Financial Counselor duties include screening and assigning patient liabilities for all emergent urgent and selfpay patients processing reservations confirming insurance eligibility and benefits and securing authorizations. The Financial Counselor counsels patients and/or their families regarding their financial liability and secures deposits on selfpay and/or collects patient liability portions routine/elective admissions. The incumbent will also screen all incoming patient transfers to UCSF Benioff Childrens Hospital. Pediatric access center duties include procuring the assignment of beds from nursing units for incoming patients tracking patient flow throughout the hospital and performing census reconciliation.
The hourly rate for this position is $36.46 $45.60. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. This position is represented by a labor union and placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. - Associates degree and two years of Sr. Admitting related work exp. or four years of Sr. Admitting related experience
- Proficiency in health insurance eligibility and authorization requirements and reimbursement financial policies
- Admisssions Discharge and Transfer experience is essential
- Knowledge of office machines to include typing 30 wpm and basic Personal Computer skills
- Ability to problem solve; ability to analyze data and recommend changes
- Must be able to multitask and prioritize
- Ability to follow instructions; work quickly and accurately in a fastpaced environment
- Analytically and grammatical skills are necessary to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Articulate and concise oral communication and the ability to write clearly and concisely
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a culturally diverse staff and patient/family population and to successfully work independently with minimum supervision.
- Ability to work fulltime onsite in San Francisco (Mission Bay).
- Bilingual capability is a plus.
- Previous experience working in a hospital setting.
- Basic knowledge of Medical Terminology.
- Knowledge of government program regulations MediCal Medicare MIA CCS and other thirdparty payors.
