You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailYou will write your thesis at Svensk Krnbrnslehantering AB SKB. Our mission is to deal with all the radioactive waste from the nuclear power plants in Sweden. In doing so we must meet the most stringent requirements regarding the safety of human beings and the environment.
In the unit Research and postclosure safety we are responsible for the analysis of radiological safety for the time after closure of the final repositories.
The aim of the MSc thesis is to develop a simple model using differential equations to provide a timeresolved estimate of how various radioactive substances in the reactor water deposit on accessible surfaces within the reactor diffuse into the system oxide and redissolve in the reactor water. This model will contribute to the safety analysis calculations helping to better estimate the radionuclide inventory of the deposited nuclear waste (e.g. the filter agents of the reactor water).
The outcomes of the thesis are expected to be shared with the European project EURAD2. EURAD2 is a European research program dedicated to improving the longterm safety of radioactive waste disposal. As part of this the ICARUS work package explores how different physical and chemical processes interact over time integrating experimental studies modeling and data analysis to improve safety assessments.
This assignment is for 1 student.
Qualifications :
We are looking for a student who want to work towards fossil freedom and who are about to graduate from their academic studies. You are also someone who identifies with our principles: Active Open Positive and Safety.
Additional Information :
Diversity and Inclusion In Everything We Do
We are convinced that heterogeneous teams can outperform homogeneous ones. But we can only unlock the power of diversity when everyone feels included. Read more about our important work on diversity and inclusion at SKB
SKBs mission is to safely manage the radioactive waste from Swedish nuclear power plants. Through our work we contribute to fossilfree electricity production and a sustainable society.
We have just started the extension of the Final repository for shortlived radioactive waste SFR and are making preparatory work above ground before starting the construction of the Final repository for spent nuclear fuel in Forsmark. In a few years we will also build an Encapsulation plant adjacent to the Central interim storage for spent nuclear fuel Clab in Oskarshamn.
SKBs headquarters are located in Arenastaden Solna. We also have offices in Oskarshamn and sthammar where we operate facilities and prepare for construction projects.
