Job Description
The Slash Crew Operator works approximately six months during the winter/spring with Facilities or Road & Bridge during the winter season for snow removal and maintenance operations on county facilities and countymaintained roadways then transitions to the Parks Department assisting with Jefferson Countys SLASH Program.The ideal candidate can operate heavy trucks tractortrailers and other heavy motorized equipment with a high degree of competency skill and proficiency. We need someone with effective communication skills who can work in a team environment safely and successfully. Our Operators also act as lead workers/operators for small crews in the field as assigned.
Schedule:
This position must be available to respond to emergencies and snow removal operations 24 hours a day seven days a week.
Salary:
Hiring range: $25.80 $29 USD per hour

Essential Duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:
Perform skilled slash maintenance operations including removal of wood tree limbs pine needles debris and organic materials from slash sites.
Perform grounds maintenance operations to include trash removal snow shoveling sand and debris removal post snowstorm cleanup and landscape work.
Operate heavy trucks tractortrailers and other heavy motorized equipment with a high degree of competency skill and proficiency.
Ensure roads and campus grounds are clear during snow events while performing plowing shoveling sweeping and snow and ice control operations.
Demonstrate proficient operation of medium and heavy equipment such as chipper chainsaw skid steer/loader backhoe small tractor with plow blade front end loader tandemaxel truck and motor grader.
Operate a truck and trailer combination lowboy water truck plow truck and other heavy equipment in preparation of construction maintenance and slash operations.
Perform equipment and vehicle pre/posttrip inspections as defined by federal guidelines and inspect other items affecting safe operations.
Perform routine cleaning and minor maintenance as necessary. Communicate repair needs with the Fleet division.
Inspect and prepare all equipment for use by performing routine maintenance and minor repairs on trucks and equipment including fueling lubricating cleaning and changing tires. Plan and request maintenance service and repair for specific equipment. Prepare equipment for specific uses by making necessary modifications
Report incidents accidents traffic violations damage to equipment vehicles and utilities.
Must adhere to all relative policies and procedures.
Ensure the various components of the Safety Management Program are adhered to including the proper use of PPE. Ensure a safe environment consistent with regulatory and organizational requirements and needs.
Perform other duties including flagging and setting up traffic control devices to ensure work zone requirements are met.
Keep time activity mileage records and logs.
Perform other duties as assigned at varying locations.
Respond to emergencies and snow removal operations 24 hours a day seven days a week. Report to assigned shop within one hour of being called.
Minimum Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent certificate (GED)
Minimum of 3 years of experience in the operation of equipment and/or vehicles with a GVWR of 26001 pounds or more
Valid Drivers License for a minimum of two consecutive years immediately preceding employment
Must have a Class B or Class A NTT Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with Tanker endorsement and Air Brake restriction removed as well as a valid Department of Transportation (DOT).
May be to transport and recover equipment within six months of hire date. May be to obtain a Flagger Certification and Traffic Control Supervisor Certification. May be to obtain Hazmat endorsement. May be to obtain Stormwater Management and Erosion Control Certification. Employment is contingent on passing a preemployment physical and meeting all applicable DOT and FMCSA requirements.
Must be 18 years or older by date of hire
Must be available to respond to emergencies and snow removal operations 24 hours a day seven days a week by reporting to your assigned shop within one hour of being called.
Preferred Qualifications:
Qualified to transport and recover equipment.
Current Flagger certification
Current Traffic Control Supervisor certification

Offer of employment is contingent on passing a criminal history MVR check prehire drug screen (for current CDL holders) and physical exam.
To be considered you must not have any major violations nor DUI DWI DWAI in the past three years.
Must provide a valid Commercial Drivers License DOT medical card and current copy of your full CDLIS Motor Vehicle Record at the time of interview.
Must obtain a NonTractor Trailer endorsement for a valid Class B CDL (if not currently endorsed) within 6 months of hire
Must obtain a Tanker Endorsement within 30 days of hire.
Jefferson County adheres to pre and postemployment drug testing regulations for positions requiring a CDL. In following Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations Jefferson County is required to contact previous employers to obtain information on past alcohol and drug testing.
May be to obtain a Flagger Traffic Control Supervisor Stormwater Management and/or Erosion Control certifications. May be to obtain a Hazmat endorsement.
