The Department of Astronomy at the University of Michigan invites applications for two
postdoctoral research scholars to work with Prof. Jinyi Yang and/or Dr. Feige Wang in one or
more areas related to highredshift galaxies/AGNs supermassive black holes protoclusters
largescale structures and cosmic reionization. Prof. Yang and Dr. Wang are leading 10 JWST
Cycle 13 programs List of Programs totaling 615 hours of primary and 827 hours of parallel
observations as well as extensive multiwavelength followup programs with ALMA Chandra
HST Gemini Keck Magellan and VLA. Successful applicants will fully participate in data
reduction and scientific analysis for projects using data from these programs. They are also
encouraged to conduct independent research with up to 50 of their research time.
Applicants with previous experience in JWST and ALMA data analysis optical/IR imaging and
spectroscopic data reduction and data mining are strongly encouraged to apply.
Successful applicants will have access to departmental facilities such as the Magellan
telescopes the MDM Observatories high performance computing clusters and other facilities
The Department of Astronomy has invested in the ESO ELT
instrumentation program and are members of consortia building HARMONI METIS ANDES and
MOSAIC. Prof. Yang and Dr. Wang are full members of the Euclid Consortium members of the
LSST AGN Science Collaboration and part of the Roman Cosmic Dawn Science Investigation
Team. Their teams have access to Euclid data and are encouraged to work with these next
generation surveys if interested. Prof. Yang is also leading a highz quasar survey with DESI.

The appointments will be renewed annually for up to a total of three years contingent upon
satisfactory performance the availability of work and the availability of funding. The nominal
starting date will be September 1 2025 but the exact start date is negotiable. Candidates must
have a Ph.D. in astronomy physics or equivalent by the start date of appointment.
