The position is designated Statutory Exemptand is exemptfrom the State Human Resources Act
The Network Engineer is a member of the Network Security Operations team consisting of several other Network Engineers who provide design consultation configuration and implementation services. These services include firewall IPS routing switching and load balancing offerings internal and external to the DIT data centers.

About the Organization
The Department of Information Technology (DIT) provides multiplatform computing and telecommunications for the State of North Carolina agencies local governments and school systems. In accordance with N.C.G.S. 143B1321(a)30 the Department supports the operation of the North Carolina 911 Board. The NC 911 Board is charged with developing and updating the State 911 Plan by monitoring trends in emergency communications technology and services investigating and incorporating GIS mapping and other resources into the plan and formulating strategies for the efficient and effective delivery of 911 call service. The Board is responsible for contracts and agreements necessary or incidental to the performance of its powers and duties under this Article and to use revenue available to the 911 Board under G.S. 143B for administrative expenses to pay its obligations under the contracts and agreements.

Visitto learn more.Bachelors degree in Computer Science or an IT related field or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of progressive experience in network engineering;
or
Associate degree in Computer Science or an IT related field or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of progressive experience in network engineering;
or
High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and seven years of experience in networking or related area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
