Policy and Advocacy Advisor

Full time permanent 37.5 hours per week

Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA) is the nations leading voice on exercise and sports science. We govern and represent approximately 10000 degreequalified accredited exercise professionals who support Australians to reach their health and performance goals.

At ESSA youll join a team dedicated to supporting our members and the communities they serve. Together youll have the opportunity to demonstrate your passion and expertise to make a positive impact on the work of accredited exercise professionals.

About your role:

The responsibilities include developing policies assisting Senior Advisors with policy delivery submissions and election resources engaging with ESSA members to enhance advocacy efforts and representing ESSA in industry forums by interacting with external stakeholders.

Your key stakeholders include ESSA members ESSA leadership team and staff external stakeholders including service providers contractors grant bodies members of parliament government NGOs and regulatory bodies and ESSA staff.

Key responsibilities:

Develop promote and advocate for policies that support the role of exercise and sports science in improving public health outcomes.

Build and maintain strong relationships with the above key stakeholders to influence and shape policy decisions.

Track public health trends and research to guide ESSAs advocacy efforts.

Prepare highquality policy briefs submissions and reports to communicate ESSAs positions.

Support and lead campaigns to raise awareness of exercise science and advocate for policy changes that benefit the profession and public health.

Represent and promote ESSA at relevant forums conferences and stakeholder meetings.

Your competitive edge will include:

  • Relevant qualifications in sports and exercise science policy public health government relations or a related field.
  • Proven experience in policy development advocacy or government relations preferably in the health or allied health sectors.
  • Strong understanding of the Australian health landscape and/or the Australia Political Environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex issues in a clear and persuasive manner.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to conduct research and develop evidencebased policy recommendations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a fastpaced highperforming and collaborative team managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Collaborative and an excellent communicator with advanced stakeholder relationship skills
