You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe Department of Veterinary Pathology in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University (ISU) in Ames Iowa invites applications for a fulltime assistant or associate term clinicaltrack or tenuretrack faculty position in Clinical Pathology.
The faculty member will join a department with a diagnostic service and communicationoriented clinical pathology laboratory for veterinary clients supported by 7 laboratory staff (MT MLT MLS) be one of 4 ACVP boardcertified clinical pathologists with multiple areas of discipline expertise. Additionally the college and university have a focus on teaching excellence with support units and there are numerous scholarship areas to disseminate new knowledge by providing expertise and contributions. A One Health approach in the Ames area occurs via information sharing and the support by human medicine clinical pathology laboratories.
The successful candidate will collaborate and participate in all aspects of clinical pathology section responsibilities with excellent communication skills a focus on continuous learning contributions to a positive culture and dedication to scholarly knowledge patientcentered professional interactions and the highest standards of integrity and ethics. Position responsibilities include diagnostic service (professional practice) teaching scholarship (research/discovery) and institutional service as defined in the Faculty Handbook appointment rank will be determined by the candidates qualifications documented experience and interests. For appointment in the term faculty clinical track a minimum of 75 is required as diagnostic and teaching service 510 scholarship/research would include publishing peerreviewed collaborative case series and case reports and/or participating in collaborative research and 5 institutional service. For appointment in the tenure track the assignments are approximately 3040 diagnostic clinical pathology services 3540 teaching professional DVM and graduate student courses 2030 collaborative research/scholarship and 5 institutional service. Candidates at the associate professor level will have documented evidence of scholarship teaching and clinical service appropriate for the rank. Actual percentages are somewhat flexible depending on the candidates expertise and departmental needs. Related clinical pathology research areas include but not are limited to; animal models of human disease infectious diseases oncology/carcinogenesis hostpathogen interactions parasitology naturally occurring animal diseases and comparative pathology.
DVM or equivalent degree
Successful completion of a Clinical Pathology residency training program through the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) or European College of Veterinary Clinical Pathologists (ECVCP). Successful completion of the ACVP or ECVCP Phase I Certifying Exam and eligibility for the ACVP or ECVCP Phase II Certifying Exam.
Documented experience in diagnostic clinical pathology and related knowledge of laboratory methods and clinical pathology teaching
In addition to the requirements above below are minimum qualications at the following ranks:
Clinical Assistant Professor: Eligibility to take ACVP Phase II Certifying Exam for the next eligible Phase II time; discipline related MS or PhD or equivalent advanced degree; or equivalent peerreviewed publication record.
Clinical Associate Professor: Diplomate ACVP/ECVCP; minimum 5 years experience in clinical pathology; discipline related MS or PhD or equivalent advanced degree; or equivalent peerreviewed publication record.
Tenuretrack Assistant Professor: Eligibility to take ACVP/ECVCP Phase II Certifying Exam for the next eligible Phase II time discipline related MS or PhD or equivalent advanced degree.
Tenuretrack Associate Professor: Diplomate ACVP/ECVCP; minimum 5 years experience in clinical pathology record of scholarship and teaching and experience experience with resident training; discipline related PhD or equivalent advanced degree.
Documented research experience (publications grants graduate student mentorship)
Certification in Clinical Pathology from the American College of Veterinary Pathologists and/or European College of Veterinary Clinical Pathologists
The Department of Veterinary Pathology currently has 7 ACVP boardcertified anatomic pathologists 4 ACVP boardcertified clinical pathologists 2 parasitology faculty and 1 postdoctorate parasitologist 2 boardcertified by ACVM) and the home department for 2 administrative PhD educational specialists The department includes students pursuing MS and PhD degree programs in anatomic pathology clinical pathology and parasitology with residency training for board certification and interdepartmental degree programs A strong collaborative environment exists between the different colleges and departments at Iowa State University. The clinical pathology section provides diagnostic services for the Veterinary College Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC) the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory regional and national veterinarians and animal health related research.
