The MUSC College of Medicine in Charleston South Carolina invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair of the Department of Family Medicine in a city and community known for its enviable quality of life. MUSC and MUSC Health are in the midst of an exciting period of growth with increases in extramural research funding support for expanding telehealth activities several new clinical outreach facilities and a new Childrens and Womens Hospital.

Job Description

MUSC the states only academic health science center consists of six colleges and educates and trains more than 3200 students and approximately 900 residents annually. The University and its health system have collective annual budgets of approximately $7 billion and annual research funding over $350 million. In the Charleston area MUSC operates a 700bed medical center a nationally recognized childrens hospital the NCIdesignated Hollings Cancer Center a Level I trauma center along with a number of outreach locations. Through its regional health network MUSC Health serves patients throughout the state.

Reporting directly to the Dean of the MUSC College of Medicine the Chair is charged with advancing the academic clinical and research missions of the Department of Family Medicine serving as a vital partner in framing the strategic direction for MUSC and MUSC Health. The Department of Family Medicine consists of 33 faculty members and 4 midlevel practitioners. Established in 1970 as one of the first universityaffiliated family medicine departments in the country the departments residency program has graduated over 500 family medicine physicians and currently has 30 family medicine residents. The department also has 6 transitional year residents and 2 primary care sports medicine fellows.

MUSC seeks a dynamic accomplished physician to continue the departments growth and development. Applicants must possess an M.D. or equivalent medical degree be board certified in Family Medicine possess outstanding leadership skills and administrative experience garnered in an academic medical center setting and possess a solid track record of commitment to clinical care education service health equity and research.
