Job Description

Position Summary:

We invite applications for a postdoctoral research position to study glacial lakes mountain
geomorphology and geohazards as part of a NASAfunded project. The postdoc will be responsible for analyzing hyperspectral EMIT data alongside Landsat and other satellite imagery. Key tasks include implementing GLAMBioLith RT analysis on EMIT data to derive suspended sediment abundances designing and applying correlations with Landsat and other multispectral data running necessary algorithms validating outputs and analyzing results. Candidates can familiarize themselves with the previous version of the model using the openaccess code https://github/nsidc/HMAGLAMBioLithRT5 or the paper successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of scholarly excellence and will be expected to work independently. Candidates with experience in other types of satellite remote sensing data and a desire to use EMIT data and other analytical techniques are also encouraged to apply. This position offers an opportunity to expand your skill set and contribute new approaches to studying the impact of climate change on mountain glaciers and glacial lakes.

The appointment will be for 1 year with continuation pending funding and progress. The position is eligible for benefits. Applicants are encouraged to ask questions to Dr. Umesh Haritashya .

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Earth or Environmental sciences/Engineering or related fields (e.g. geology geography geosciences glaciology civil engineering computer science). ABD at the time of application is accepted but Ph.D. is required by the start date.
Candidate must have experience using GIS and remote sensing software and satellite data products in analyzing glacial lakes or glacier geomorphology.
Experience in programming.
Publication record in peerreviewed journals.

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

Proficiency in using Matlab for data analysis.
Experience in using EMIT data.
Knowledge of radiative transfer modeling.
Ability to use at least some combination of these software/modeling tools (e.g. Google Earth Engine.
HECRAS RAMMS GeoClaw COSICorr SfM) and Python/R programming for data analysis.
Experience in using/analyzing climate data.
Ability to think creatively and work independently and in a team.
Articulated interest in and flexibility necessary to respond quickly to timesensitive research requirements.
Excellent verbal and written communication organizational and interpersonal skills.
Record of publication as lead author in a highimpact toptier journal.
Experience in writing or contributing to successful research proposals.
