Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is seeking two Water Treatment Equipment Technicians to perform installations maintenance and repairs of water treatment monitoring and chemical feed equipment. This position is a part of the Drinking Water Quality Laboratory Division.

Job Responsibilities
- Perform and coordinate the installation maintenance and repair of chlorination hypochlorination fluoridation corrosion control and related equipment; perform emergency maintenance and the more technically difficult repairs.
- Train section Water Treatment Operators in equipment preventive maintenance and related troubleshooting techniques.
- Provide technical assistance in the design review installation operation and maintenance of new treatment facilities and special inhouse projects including equipment replacement and plant modifications.
- Provide recommendations to the Crew Chief concerning maintenance schedules and the assignment of personnel to accomplish maintenance and repair activities.
- Coordinate spare parts inventory for water treatment facilities including recordkeeping ordering and stocking of spare parts.
- Keep maintenance records including those for the preventive maintenance program and for emergency maintenance.
- Organize and maintain operation and maintenance manuals.
- Perform other related duties of a comparable level and type as assigned.

Education:One 1 year of education in an approved water works training program
Experience: Two 2 years of water treatment equipment installation and maintenance or (a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).
License Requirements:- A current State of Washington drivers license and Full Washington Driver Abstract required as the position involves driving various trucks and trailers to multiple field locations.
Driving record evaluation:- Parking tickets: 0 points
- Moving violations (e.g. speeding failure to signal): 1 point each
- License suspension negligent/reckless driving racing: 4 points each
- Hit & run vehicular DUI/DWI: 5 points each
Certification Requirement:- Washington State Certification as Water Distribution Manager II within 12 months of appointment.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:- This position does not have a remote work option. The successful candidate must work from the Water Quality Lab. Individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.
- Annual fit test and respiratory exam are mandatory.
- Required to stand walk or bend for extended periods or work in confined spaces.
- Frequently required to handle or work around toxic/hazardous substances. In case of emergency you must wear and use a breathing apparatus. Occasionally required to work at heights up to 100 feet above ground level.
- Required to work outdoors in all types of weather.
- Frequently required to lift objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds.
- Occasionally required to work nights weekends and/or holidays.
Desired Qualifications:- Intermediate knowledge of water treatment equipment i.e. pumps hoses chlorine analyzers etc.
- Skilled handyman with knowledge of the electrical plumbing and pipe fitting trades.
- Experience with SCADA computer systems and Microsoft Office programs.
- Higherlevel Water Distribution Manager (WDM) or Water Treatment Plant Operator (WTPO) certifications Cross Connection certification.
- Experience in a public water distribution system.
- Experience in handling toxic/hazardous substances.
- Prior experience in the Water Treatment Industry.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively within a multicultural workforce serving a diverse customer base.

The full salary range for this position is: $43.92 $47.59
