Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is seeking two Water Treatment Equipment Technicians to perform installations maintenance and repairs of water treatment monitoring and chemical feed equipment. This position is a part of the Drinking Water Quality Laboratory Division.

Job Responsibilities

Qualifications

Education:One 1 year of education in an approved water works training program

Experience: Two 2 years of water treatment equipment installation and maintenance or (a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).

License Requirements:


Driving record evaluation:
  • Parking tickets: 0 points
  • Moving violations (e.g. speeding failure to signal): 1 point each
  • License suspension negligent/reckless driving racing: 4 points each
  • Hit & run vehicular DUI/DWI: 5 points each
Note: Candidates with more than 4 points in the last 5 years may not be considered for positions requiring driving.

Certification Requirement:
  • Washington State Certification as Water Distribution Manager II within 12 months of appointment.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:
  • This position does not have a remote work option. The successful candidate must work from the Water Quality Lab. Individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.
  • Annual fit test and respiratory exam are mandatory.
  • Required to stand walk or bend for extended periods or work in confined spaces.
  • Frequently required to handle or work around toxic/hazardous substances. In case of emergency you must wear and use a breathing apparatus. Occasionally required to work at heights up to 100 feet above ground level.
  • Required to work outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Frequently required to lift objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally required to work nights weekends and/or holidays.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Intermediate knowledge of water treatment equipment i.e. pumps hoses chlorine analyzers etc.
  • Skilled handyman with knowledge of the electrical plumbing and pipe fitting trades.
  • Experience with SCADA computer systems and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Higherlevel Water Distribution Manager (WDM) or Water Treatment Plant Operator (WTPO) certifications Cross Connection certification.
  • Experience in a public water distribution system.
  • Experience in handling toxic/hazardous substances.
  • Prior experience in the Water Treatment Industry.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively within a multicultural workforce serving a diverse customer base.

The full salary range for this position is: $43.92 $47.59
