Job Description
Amazon Web Services (AWS) Hardware Engineering is a leadingedge product development team that creates enterprise compute and storage server designs for our innovative web service and ecommerce technology platforms. Our designs are industryleading in terms of performance frugality and operational excellence and are critical to the success of the AWS business and the hundreds of thousands of customers who use utility computing today. We are seeking experienced Thermal/Mechanical Engineers to build the next generation of our cloud platforms. Our success depends on our truly innovative server infrastructure; were handling massive scale and rapid integration of emergent technologies.
What you will do: As a member of the Hardware Engineering Mechanical/Thermal/Robotics (MTR) Engineering team youll be responsible for the design of our server platforms. Youll provide leadership in the application of new cooling and mechanical technologies to large scale server deployments in a continuous effort to deliver a worldclass customer experience. This is a fastpaced challenging position and youll work with thought leaders in multiple technology areas. Youll have relentlessly high standards for yourself and everyone you work with and youll be constantly looking for ways to improve your products performance quality and cost. Youll need to understand when a change in technology enables a completely different way of approaching server design. Were changing an industry and we want team members who are ready for this challenge and want to reach beyond what is possible today.

You will demonstrate a working knowledge of mechanical and thermal systems with experience in systems integration of complex server products. Youll have the desire to learn from new challenges and the problem solving and communication skills to work within a highly interactive and experienced team. Candidates must show a handson passion for their work and be able to communicate their ideas and concepts both verbally and visually. Candidates must demonstrate an ability to integrate feedback and to respond quickly to changing contexts and work environments.
Key job responsibilities
In this role you will:
* Perform mechanical and thermal design and development for complex electronic systems
* Design and validate systems and subsystems to meet program objectives
* Participate in the crossdiscipline design process working with other HW and SW team members to develop optimized integrated solutions
* Conduct failure analysis and solution validation for product development and fleet systems
* Manage interaction with overseas resources
* Provide mentorship and technical reviews to a team of mechanical/thermal design engineers
A day in the life
The average week is a mixture of using engineering tools (CAD and thermal simulation) data analysis meetings (internal and vendors) test report reviews design reviews and communicating via tickets or emails to make design and project decisions.

The Hardware Engineering Mechanical/Thermal/Robotics (MTR) Engineering team owns the thermal and mechanical hardware designs of AWS servers and server racks and drives Operational Excellence endtoend related to thermal and mechanical issues.
7 years experience in server technologies such as thermal mechanical power and signal integrity
Masters degree in mechanical engineering thermal engineering or equivalent
Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
Experience with the project management of technical projects

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $128600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on jobrelated knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
