Job Description

$21.64 Per Hour/27.03 after 6 months (After successful completion of the probationary period)
Night Differential of $1.50 applies to overnight shifts
Additional differential pay for Holidays and Inclement Weather Closings
Job Summary:
Marist University seeks applications for the position of Security Officer. The Security Officer is responsible for providing excellent customer service and focuses on safety and security to all members of the Marist community including parents and guests. This position supports the institutional ideals of excellence in education a sense of community and a commitment to service. The Security Officer is responsible for the security of equipment and real property remains alert and engaged at all times demonstrates an understanding and embraces engagement with a diverse population and is capable of handling crisis situations and making decisions based upon policy.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
- Ability to obtain a valid NYS Security Guard Certification with verification of the 16hour basic OJT training certification
- Emergency Medical Technician certified by the NY State Department of Health
- Valid Drivers License
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
Essential Functions:
- Patrol assigned area on foot in assigned motor vehicle or other specialized vehicle to ensure personal building and equipment security
- Examine doors windows and gates to ensure security
Uses College keys to open and close buildings - Monitors closed buildings for unauthorized persons and/or suspicious activities
- Inform and warn violators of rule infractions such as loitering smoking or carrying forbidden articles
- Provide escort services for visitors students staff and faculty as necessary; provides other public assistance such as lockout services jumpstarts and routine information
- Watch for and reports irregularities such as security breaches facility and safety hazards and emergency situations
- Contact emergency responders such as police fire and/or ambulance personnel as required
- Remain alert for the presence of unauthorized persons and/or security code violators; approaches suspicious persons and/or notifies police as appropriate; may confront and/or detain violators as required until police arrive
- Perform periodic checks of emergency call boxes and/or street lights to ensure proper functioning; reports malfunctions as required
- May provide safe and efficient transportation to College employees and/or visitors as requested using an institutional vehicle
- Patrol and monitors assigned parking areas to provide public security and enforce infractions utilizing automated ticket system. Maintains security controls for issued College keys; safeguards and controls issued College equipment
- Prepare automated incident reports
- Perform miscellaneous jobrelated duties as assigned
- Provide strong student focused customer service
- Identify fire safety issues and report observations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to successfully conduct security patrols without direct supervision
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to operate computer to complete reports and assignment
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
- Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures
- Strong interpersonal skills flexibility and customer service orientation
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Ability to perform CPR/AED
- Skill in performing building security and lock procedures
- Conform to duties detailed in the Security Officer Manual and other duties deemed necessary by the department policies
- Ability to understand follow and enforce safety codes regulations and procedures
- A strong service orientation and demonstrated ability to work in a diverse multicultural community
- Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel

- Tuition Benefits:

- College pays 100 tuition only.
- Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.
