Pay Rate:
202425: Standard CBWS Hourly Rate $15/hour)
202526: Specialized CBWS Hourly Rate $15.56/hour). This pay rate aligns with the pay scale for Northfield Public Schools and is subject to an annual wage increase.

IMPORTANT: STUDENTS MUST HAVE A STATE OR FEDERAL WORK AWARD TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR COMMUNITY BASED WORK STUDY (CBWS) POSITIONS. Student CBWS work eligibility is subject to change due to work award redeterminations over the summer. This means even students who were a chosen applicant for the position may be ineligible to work if they do not have a state/federal work award come Fall 2025. Students who are unsure if they currently have a state or federal work award please contact before applying to find out what type of work award you have.

Description of the Position:
Teach a swim skills curriculum at various levels (beginner through advanced) for local youth and/or (if certified) provide lifeguard services during swim lessons and/or birthday parties.

Days and times vary but are typically:

@ Northfield Middle School
M T Th 6 8:10 pm
1 two week session in the fall. 12 twoweek session(s) in the spring.

@ Northfield AmericInn
Tuesdays 68 week session 5:15 7:30 pm
Private Lesson opportunity before and/or after scheduled lessons

@ Birthday Party Lifeguard
Saturdays as scheduled by each family. No be added to the party list and if you are available you may pick up those hours.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Lifeguards/swim instructors will be alert to patrons and be prepared to respond to all situations requiring attention whether on deck or in the pool.
• Lifeguards/swim instructors will arrive at least fifteen minutes early and ensure the lesson venue is safe and ready for patrons.
• Lifeguards/swim instructors will oversee child behavior and with the help of the program supervisor and recreation coordinator implement the disciplinary action plan as needed.
• Lifeguards/swim instructors will be prepared to execute the EMS plan and know how to respond to emergency situations.
• Lifeguards/swim instructors will communicate any concerns to the recreation coordinator.
• Lifeguards/swim instructors will keep track of time worked and record on timesheet
• Lifeguards/swim instructors will openly communicate with the recreation coordinator in a timely manner regarding vacation requests program issues etc.

For lifeguards only:

• Lifeguards will wear a rescue tube and whistle when patrons in the facility
• Lifeguards will remain at lifeguard post and stay focused throughout the duration of lessons
• Lifeguards will maintain order of the facility most specifically with regards to patron behaviors while in the water
  

Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills)

• Must provide proof of current Lifeguard Certification (required if performing lifeguard duties; preferred but not required if teaching swim lessons)
• Experience having taught swim lessons and/or working with youth.
