Boost Child & Youth Advocacy Centre (Boost CYAC) is situated on the traditional territories of the Wendat Anishinabek Nation the Haudenosaunee Confederacy and the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation who have been the traditional caretakers of this land for thousands of years. This land is covered by the Dish With One Spoon Treaty between the Anishinaabe Mississaugas and Haudenosaunee that bound them to share the territory and protect the land. Subsequent Indigenous Nations and Peoples Europeans and all newcomers have been invited into this treaty in the spirit of peace friendship and respect. We are grateful to share this land as treaty people who learn work and live in the community with each other.

Organizational Overview

Boost Child & Youth Advocacy Centre (Boost CYAC) is a registered charity that provides a range of services to children youth and families who have experienced abuse or violence within the City of Toronto. We provide individual group family and community services that include trauma counselling advocacy and support services during child abuse investigations court support and accompaniment services and abuse and violence prevention materials and trainings. Boost CYAC is accredited by the Canadian Centre for Accreditation an independent nonprofit organization that offers accreditation specifically tailored to communitybased health and social services across Canada.

Position Description

We are seeking two 2 Short Term Child & Family Therapists to provide brief therapeutic support services (up to 8 sessions) to children youth and families who have experienced abuse and/or violence. Referrals may be made immediately following an onsite investigative interview during intake to Trauma Therapy Program and following the completion of criminal court proceedings.

Short Term Therapists will also cycle into the CYAP Advocate schedule on a monthly basis to provide immediate support and advocacy to clients at the time of their investigative interview.

The Short Term Child & Family Therapists will work as a member of the Trauma Therapy Program (TTP) and will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary partner agency clinicians within the Child & Youth Advocacy Centre Mental Health Services.


Qualifications/Skills

  • A Masters level degree in Social Work (MSW) Counselling Psychology or equivalent. Registration in good standing in an appropriate regulatory body.
  • Sound knowledge of the field of childhood trauma particularly complex developmental and intergenerational trauma and child and adolescent development.
  • Minimum of two 2 years experience providing evidencedbased and/or evidenced informed brief solution focused treatment to children youth and their families.
  • The ability and willingness to work with clients in both virtual and in person sessions and flexibility in scheduling appointments based on client availability.
  • Ability to meet the needs of a diverse client base through knowledge of and application of diversity equity and inclusion traumainformed antioppressive antiracist and cultural competency practices.
  • Sound knowledge of the Child & Youth Advocacy Model and direct experience collaborating with teams of multidisciplinary professionals and community partners.
  • Ability to respond to crisis situations screen for suicidality or other high risk concerns and develop safety plans.
  • The ability to employ selfcare strategies and maintain a calm demeanor and positive attitude in relation to potentially stressful situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal written and organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple tasks and deadlines in a fastpaced environment.
  • Experience and ability to write professional clinical reports case notes and other client focused documentation. Proficient computer skills and experience with client databases and electronic health records.
  • Demonstrated flexibility judgement initiative confidentiality and a strong work ethic.
  • Satisfactory clearance under the Vulnerable Sector Screening process.

Responsibilities

  • Provide trauma and evidence informed strengthsbased and culturally responsive short term therapeutic services to children youth and caregivers.
  • Facilitate referrals to ongoing internal or community based supports as required.
  • Facilitate evidence informed group psychoeducation services for youth and caregivers.
  • Maintain regular communication and work collaboratively with internal multidisciplinary or community professionals involved with clients.
  • Provide evidenced informed crisis intervention services to clients experiencing high risk safety concerns as required.
  • Provide support and education to children youth and families who attend Boost CYAC for an investigative interview and assist clients and families in developing a system of support.
  • Maintain professional documentation in the form of case notes assessments intervention reports progress reports and discharge summaries and other statistical information according to agency procedures and requirements.
  • Establish and maintain professional alliances with collateral agencies and service providers and facilitate external client referrals as required.
  • Contribute to program development evaluations and educational activities within the program and organization.
  • Support a workplace that embraces diversity and inclusion encourages teamwork and complies with all the applicable regulatory and legislative requirements.

Work Schedule

Monday to Friday 35 hours per week

Day and evening shifts as required.

This is not a fully remote role; remote/hybrid work options may be availableconsidering service standards and operational requirements.
