Job Description

The University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry Department of Medicine Division of Cardiology in partnership with Alberta Health Services invites applications for an Interventional Cardiologist to be based at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute / University of Alberta. Located in Edmonton Alberta Canada the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the worlds top 50 medical schools and as one of Canadas premier healtheducation institutions.

The University of Albertas Division of Cardiology is an integral part of Cardiac Sciences within the Edmonton Zone and the Department of Medicine. The Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute a stateoftheart facility that provides tertiary and quaternary cardiac care services for the City of Edmonton Northern Alberta and parts of British Columbia Yukon Nunavut Northwest Territories and Saskatchewan. The Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute is the only heart institute in the country providing care for both pediatric and adult patients. Other defining features include a leading Systems of Care program for Acute Coronary Syndromes one of the largest Cardiac Transplant/Advanced Heart Failure and Mechanical Circulatory Support programs in the Canada the largest Western Canadian Adult Congenital Heart Disease program highly successful Pulmonary Hypertension program and a large imaging research center (ABACUS) which is available for clinical and basic science research.

The successful applicant will join a group of over 35 cardiologists with 7 Interventional Cardiologists to work in a stateoftheart facility with 3 cardiac catheterizations laboratories and one hybrid room. In addition the successful candidate would attend inpatient services rotate through emergency triage on an equitable basis involved in education and contribute to clinical research.

The successful candidate will have an MD degree or equivalent. He or she will be eligible to be certification in Cardiology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada and provide evidence of Fellowship training in Interventional Cardiology. In addition the candidate will have additional experience and/or Fellowship training in Chronic Total Occlusion intervention with midcareer experience in interventional cardiology. As well he or she will be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).

The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Medicine University of Alberta which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.
