Primary Purpose of Position:
Do you have a passion for science and North Carolinas natural beauty The Division of Parks and Recreation is seeking two 2 Regional Biologistas part of the Natural Resource Programs team of professional resource managers. The Natural Resources Program collects and uses biological information to provide scientific and technical support to state park superintendents planners and engineers to ensure the longterm protection and sound management of natural and cultural resources in the state parks system. The Natural Resources Program also leads the Division in ecological management decisions on fire forestry ecological restoration invasive species and protection of rare and endangered species.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Provide expert guidance and assistance to all state parks and natural areas in the fields of natural resource management.
  • Responsible for rare species protection prescribed fire invasive species control forestry forest and steam restoration.
  • Responsible for setting objectives negotiating contracts managing budgets training staff and supervising the work of others.
  • Communicate with park staff and outside organizations including federal state and local government agencies for all matters related to protection of park natural resources.

Position/Physical Requirements:

  • Typical work schedule is Monday to Friday 8:00 am 5:00 pm.
  • Must be able to frequently lift up to 50 lbs of forceoccasionally 20 lbs of force frequently and 10 lbs of force withor without reasonable accommodation.
  • Work requires a variety of physical tasks visual acuity and is subject to a variety of environmental conditions.
  • Must be available to work after hours weekend andholidays whennecessary.
  • Must have a valid drivers license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days ofemployment.
  • Must be able to perform job duties are performed in both inside and outside environmental conditions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Veterans and National Guard Preference

Applicants who are former member of either the NC Army National Guard or the NC Air National Guard with honorable discharge and six years of creditable service must attach a copy of the DD 256 or NGB 22 along with the state application.
