Job Description
- Interprets spoken language from one language into another with appropriate use of language. Provides consecutive or simultaneous interpretation between languages.
- Translates documents and other materials. Reads and rewrites material in specified language or languages following established rules pertaining to factors such as word meanings sentence structure grammar punctuation and mechanics.
- Serves as a liaison between staff and the school community to ensure that translations and documents are properly translated. Verifies and clarifies information to be translated.
- Accurately translate written materials such as flyers social media posts district wide announcements/press releases or other types of documents into Spanish
- Participates in School Board expulsion hearings when required.
- Reviews and edits translations made by others for accuracy context readability and style. Proofreads documents and forms.
- Performs any other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must be fully proficient in English and Spanish; experience translating in other languages is preferred
- Bachelors degree in a world language preferred demonstrated bilingualism and literacy through language proficiency testing may be accepted in lieu of a bachelors degree
- Additional interpretation certification such as the Community Interpreter Certificate preferred
- Experience interpreting in school and/or community setting preferred
- Strong communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively in person and by email and phone
- Familiarity using interpretation equipment
- Demonstrated proficiency with technology including but not limited to Google Suite Microsoft Office and social media
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and participate in evening and weekend events
- Understanding and sensitivity for diverse cultural ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds
Pay Rate:
Language InterpreterGradeC13 Salary Scale(credit is based on years of fulltime experience in a related position)
Assignment:
Full time / 10 months / 183 days
Start Date:
This position is effectivefor theremainderof theschool year. Applicants eligible for theschool year will also be considered.
