Background
To assist in research (by carrying out data collection or analyses) to create knowledge through providing research support for projects and research groups.
Join a groundbreaking research project funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation aimed at revolutionizing tuberculosis (TB) diagnostics. Were developing an innovative enzymatic lysis technique that addresses critical challenges in TB detection. Our approach tackles the complex mycobacterial cell wall using novel enzyme families enabling rapid lowcost diagnostic techniques. This research has the potential to dramatically improve TB testing accessibility particularly in resourcelimited settings by creating a safer more efficient method for extracting mycobacterial DNA for sequencingbased diagnostics and drug susceptibility testing. If youre passionate about transforming global health through innovative molecular biology and diagnostic technologies this is your opportunity to make a meaningful impact in combating one of the worlds most persistent infectious diseases.
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in developing an innovative TB diagnostic approach collaborating across a multidisciplinary team to advance our novel enzymatic lysis technology. Key responsibilities include enzyme production and characterization systematically testing enzyme cocktails against various Mycobacterial species to optimize DNA extraction efficiency. You will design and implement multiplex PCR protocols to generate amplicons and utilize rapid nanopore sequencing techniques to validate and refine our endtoend diagnostic test for drug resistance. The role demands meticulous laboratory work involving molecular biology techniques data analysis and collaborative problemsolving to translate our research innovations into a practical diagnostic solution. Candidates will be expected to contribute to experimental design conduct rigorous laboratory experiments document results comprehensively and participate in team discussions to iteratively improve our diagnostic methodology.
Ideal candidates will possess a strong academic background in life sciences with a minimum of an undergraduate degree in biochemistry microbiology biomedical science or a closely related field. A masters degree is preferred. We are seeking candidates with demonstrable experience in molecular biology techniques including DNA extraction polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and sequencing methodologies. Specific technical skills we value include proficiency in laboratory techniques experience with multiplex PCR nanopore sequencing and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a research environment. Strong analytical skills attention to detail and the ability to document and communicate scientific findings clearly are essential. Candidates should be comfortable working in a fastpaced research setting be adaptable to evolving research challenges and show a genuine passion for innovative diagnostic technologies and global health solutions.
We are seeking a motivated molecular biologist to develop innovative diagnostic technologies for tuberculosis. The role involves creating novel enzymatic methods to extract mycobacterial DNA designing multiplex PCR protocols and using nanopore sequencing to create a rapid drug resistance diagnostic test.
