Job Description

Overview

At Houston Methodist the Senior Research/Scientific Manager plays a vital role in overseeing research facilities advanced imaging equipment and safety and regulatory operations within their area of scientific expertise. As a subject matter expert this position provides critical support to Houston Methodist Academic Institute (HMAI) scientists and management under the direction of MITIE Administration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards institutional policies licensing board requirements and research protocols.
  • Operate advanced imaging equipment and support Principal Investigators (PIs) in conducting research studies.
  • Manage facility operations and uphold safety and regulatory standards.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Valid State Radiologic Technologist (RT) license (required)
  • ARRT certification in Radiography (R) (required)
  • MRI certification (preferred)
  • Fluoroscopy permit (if required by state regulations)
  • Experience with Siemens Artis Zeego or similar interventional imaging systems (preferred)
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in interventional radiology cardiology or surgical imaging (preferred)
  • Experience in a Cardiac Catheterization Lab (Cath Lab) (preferred)
  • Multimodality expertise in CT MRI and interventional imaging (Carm Artis Zeego) (preferred)

This role is ideal for a MultiModality Radiologic Technologist Registered Radiologic Technologist (RT) with MultiModality Certification or an Advanced Imaging Technologist with expertise in diagnostic and interventional imaging.

Responsibilities

  • Provides expert guidance to HMAI scientists staff management and executives.
  • Promotes a positive work environment and contributes to a dynamic team focused work unit that actively helps one other to achieve optimal results in relation to expertise. Collaborates with scientists staff management and executives by actively communicating and reporting pertinent information as it relates to area of expertise in a comprehensive manner.
  • Serves as liaison between scientists & staff and management committees & executives related to area of expertise.
  • Conducts self in a manner that is congruent with cultural diversity equity and inclusion principles. Contributes towards improvement of department scores for employee engagement i.e. peertopeer accountability.


SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Reviews HMAI activities related to area of expertise and provides guidance or recommendations.
  • Performs research incorporates novel procedures and improves methods/procedures/ processes related to area of expertise.


QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Establishes and maintains documented consistent processes related to expertise. Regulatory responsibilities include communicate compliance issues as needed.
  • Writes and maintains regulatory and safety committee applications/protocols related to area of expertise. Maintains accurate records of expertise related activities and data.
  • Identifies opportunities for corrective action and process improvement providing recommendations and contributes to meeting departmental and institute targets related to area of expertise.


FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assumes responsibility and oversight for goals and objectives related to area of expertise to include preparing cost projections for department/office activities and maintains accurate records of expenditures.
  • Provides scientific leadership and vision for the Core Facilities Program over $100000 in revenue and with a budget over $150000.
  • Utilizes resources with cost effectiveness and value creation in mind. Is a good steward of Methodists resources and considers this for such orders. Selfmotivated to independently manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasks assisting coworkers as needed.


GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Determines specific area of expertise institutional goals and objectives to be attained with HMAI Central Administration and Executive Leadership. Assumes responsibility and oversight for those goals and objectives.
  • Participates in 6 to 12 areas of expertiserelated conferences and seminars a year. Attends annual national or international Leadership/Officer conferences. Participates in publication and grant writing and prepares scientific presentations.
  • Seeks opportunities to identify selfdevelopment needs and takes appropriate action. Ensures own career discussions occur with appropriate management. Completes and updates the My Development Plan on an ongoing basis.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelors degree or higher related to area of expertise


WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Ten years experience in expertise or five years PhD experience in expertise

License/Certification

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Certification as apply to specific expertise. (Ex. PCCL Core Expert has imaging certification XRay)
