JOB SUMMARY
This role is responsible for managing and administering leave of absence for Livingston associates in Canada and the United States. Specifically managing disability claims and return to work coordination including short term disability (STD) long term disability (LTD) WSIB as well as medical accommodations to aid in return to work.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide guidance and education on leaves and claims processes including STD LTD and Workers Compensation and all other statutory leaves in Canada and the United States to managers and associates.
- Engage employees who are absent from work due to occupational and nonoccupational illness/ injury or statutory leave request and follow up on paperwork and document the procedure.
- Liaise with STD/ LTD insurance carriers to obtain information regarding employee claim status to determine return to work timeframes.
- Liaise with WSIB / WCB representatives/ third party carriers to manage claims objection and appeals process return to work plans and coordinate return to work.
- Liaise and manage FMLA for all associates in the United States.
- Maintain current knowledge of relevant legislation as it applies to all work locations.
- Operate within the parameters of legislation collective agreements external and internal policies and procedures and provide advice to management employees and union representatives regarding claims management return to work and accommodation.
- Liaise with third party insurance providers and management to identify suitable alternate job placements for employees requiring occupational change.
- Collaborate with team members management third party disability vendors to ensure proper tracking process workflow and data reporting for all leaves of absence.
- Initiate and participate in biweekly cross functional discussions between Employee Relations Specialists and Management or third parties to identify and drive case resolution.
- Actively pursue ongoing process improvement on program policies procedures and tools as it relates to leave of absence return to work and accommodation and implement proactive solutions.
- Participate in the effective and delivery of safety programs and communications to support Health and Safety collection analysis and distribution of health and safety metrics and information.
- Work with Total Rewards to ensure implementation and ongoing improvement of safety health and systems within the location and governing legislation.
- Collaborate with Occupational Health and Safety team to monitor hazard and incident reporting and provide a centralized strategic focus to ensure compliance reduce lost time accidents and promote company safety policies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
- Adhere to established policies and procedures.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Understanding and knowledge of HR policies procedures and processes.
- Strong knowledge of legislation relating to human rights statutory leaves and health and safety.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated problemsolving skills; ability to identify potential solutions.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Effective communication skills (written verbal).
- Ability to work well in a team environment and develop collaborative relationships with colleagues across the department.
- Proficient computer skills including MS Office (e.g. Excel Word and Outlook).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive data in an ethical and professional manner.
WORK EXPERIENCE MINIMUM REQUIRED
2 years of related experience
EDUCATION
Required: Associates Degree or postsecondary education in Human Resources or Business
