Description
The Potomac School Math Department seeks candidates for a fulltime Upper School Math Teacher opening for theschool year. This position reports to the Head of the Upper School and is responsible for teaching four classes as well as advising a group of Upper School students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Inspire a love of math in students through teaching four classes.
- Build relationships with students via the classroom and an advisory.
- Plan prepare and deliver lesson plans and instruction in a manner that facilitates active studentcentered learning using various teaching methods such as discussions group activities and occasional lectures.
- Work with students to encourage and facilitate each individuals growth.
- Collaborate actively with math department colleagues including on curriculum and course planning.
- Teach the assigned curriculum evaluate students progress and inform parents of progress.
- Keep attendance records; manage student behavior in the classroom and maintain a positive educational environment for all students.
- Meet with parents as needed to discuss student progress and challenges.
- Participate in faculty and professional meetings educational conferences and other teacher training workshops.
- Demonstrate personal leadership qualities to inspire student learning including understanding of the characteristics of the age group taught.
- Work in an organized dependable patient and creative manner.
- Advise a group of Upper School students by developing meaningful relationships with them and supporting their academic and socialemotional growth.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree required preferably with previous experience teaching math at the Upper School level.
- Ability to communicate motivate and understand the students educational and emotional needs.
- Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with other teachers support staff parents and members of the community.
- Ability to recognize and respond to individual and cultural differences in students and use different teaching methods that inspire high student engagement and achievement.
- Enthusiasm and joy for working with students.
